Do you think old football stars cringe at today's salaries?
I mean,internationals in say the 70's & 80's would have made a pretty decent living,but now,average prem players,who will never see an England cap are earning stupid amounts like £30,000/£50,000 a week,and ex footballers are selling their caps,medals etc.to make ends meet now!
A half decent player nowadays,if his head is screwed on right,after a few year career will be set up for life.
What wre your thoughts on this?

If I earnt £50,000 over 2 years I would be ecstatic.

Their wages are ridiculous but if they don't get it, then the chairman will. The clubs earn more than enough money to pay these sorts of wages and if they don't pay the players these huge amounts then the money will just line the pockets of the chairman instead.

Probably, though I expect there will be a few looking on at certain players and wondering what exactly it is they do to justify the sort of wages around now. You can't really blame footballers for being paid the way they are though.

If for some reason the demand for primary school teachers increases to the point that schools are prepared to pay them £50,000 per week, they aren't going to turn it down and say "Sorry, but I don't deserve this."

I bet they wish they were playing nowadays though!:)

Derek Dooley would have been sent off in the first five minutes nowadays.

Charging the goalkeeper was allowed back then along with all sorts of things that aren't now

They are probably a touch jealous i assume that is the ones who have not got a cushy media job.

I recall an interview with Robbie Savage and he said 18 months would do you for life.....on his wage at Blackburn. Could be as little as 3-4 months for people like Terry/Ronaldo on £120,000pw +
