In contrast to lots of threads complaining about letting agents:

Me and my girlfriend have just had our application accepted on a house with Bloor Letting Agents, and I just wanted to say that I have been impressed with the service and the friendliness of the staff. Its obviously a stressfull time trying to find a house (especially in a limited time frame) and the staff there were very helpful.

The only downside was the charge for the application process. But i guess you have to pay for the convenience of not having to sort through lots of ads in the paper.

I think the best thing about using an agent (for me anyway) is being able to look at the houses on their website - and often be able to even look at photos of the inside of a house.

(Tip for anyone looking to let their house - photos of the interior of the house are really useful. I found i was much more likely to book a viewing for houses that had interior photographs)

I must balance your glowing report with my experience of Bloor.

We moved from London last year.
It took a while to find a house to rent.

We didnt find Bloor initially so had seen a few places before we phoned them with our requirements.

They said they had an ideal place for us.
We werent sure cos the address was away from where we wanted so we went through the whole lot on the phone with them.

We then drove up specially from London just to see this one place to find they had got us up all for nothing.

It was:

Miles from where we wanted
Nowhere near a bus route
Had 20 steps down to the garden
Didnt have garage (but had off st park space)
Had tiny kitchen
Third bedroom was box room and unusable
Had not been updated in 20 years

The above were all things I had asked for on phone and they still made us drive up.

There you go, maybe a bad apple but sure upset me with Bloors

Slightly off topic, but I wonder if there is room for a business that would deal with people wanting to move to Sheffield from far away.
Say they pay you a fee to go around viewing places and taking photo's or video's which you could then email to them. This way you also wouldn't be tied down to any particular estate agents, becaused they could all be covered... :wow:
