View Full Version : Does your partner use the Sheffield Forum?

I saw a thread a few minutes ago where one user mentioned her boyfriend was another forum user; it set me thinking about my fellow forummers.

I'm aware of some of the better known couples on here, but what about the rest of you? Do your partners use the forum, and if so would you own up to saying who they are? :suspect: Does he / she think you are a sad-act for staying awake chatting with people you don't know? Mine does. :hihi: He reckons I'm on here far too often, and I have to agree.

My fiancee is a registered user, although I think she has only made 2 posts so far.

She doesn't at all mind me coming on here, in fact she enjoys searching through my posts... especially the ones I post when drunk after a night out lol. And she is eagerly awaiting my 1000th post lol......... which she will see when she next reads the forum!

If I did have a partner I think I'd want her to be part of this community. There are alot of great people here with whom you can actually interact, this is the kind of possobility that only virtual electronic community can offer I think. My wife does not use computers a great deal (although she's gradually finding a use for them). And I know what she thinks of "talking to people" over the Internet: the first time I got a microphone & speakers set up with Microsoft Netmeeting about 8 years ago, and hooked up with some complete stranger to discuss the joys of being able to communicate with one another, she ran around in the background shouting "you're SAD, you're SAD, you're talking to a computer, you're so SAD". Funny, I never heard from that particular bloke again.

I mentioned Sheffield Forum to somebody I know recently and she said "oh, my boyfriend's always on that" and told me his username. I went and had a quick look and, indeed, there he was. One of his most recent posts ended with "I hope my girlfriend doesn't see this". It's OK, I haven't told her. (yet).

My hubbie cannot even understand how a computer works( Kids give him loads of stick about it).
He is the same with mobile phones.
If mine rings while I am driving and he is in the car and I ask him to answer it, he gets in such a flap as , although I have explained what to do(open the phone up and press the little button with a picture of a phone ),he still cannot get it!!

Oh well,horses for courses.

That sounds like the sort of thing I used to say Hels. Scary but true. Course - now I can get my hands on the computer without loads of hassle and have founf the reason why the forum is so addictive.

Mind you - I think you still have to draw a line between harmless passtime and obsession. You start telling hubby everything that goes on in here and he is sure to get peeved - same if you cannot divide your time between being in here and doing the things you would do if you was not in here.

Before I got hooked on the forum I did not have to join as my partner then would inform me of just about everything going on in here - even if that meant phoning me regularly at work.

And to see someone sitting there pressing the refresh icon over and again waiting for a reply is a sure sign that something is wrong and you need to get off your bum and have a damned good time with the person you are supposed to be with. Same goes for them, of course, as it takes two to tango.

And at the time I was not interested if Mr and Mrs fnfnfn were thinking about taking a holiday in Barbados without their children. But everything in moderation says I.

Mrs Draggletail (Longshanks) comes on the forum occasionally. She's not addicted like me, though.
In fact because of my increasing use of the forum I decided to get broadband. She insisted I paid the £100 conection/modem fee myself :suspect:

Maybe she should change her username to 'tightshanks'
- or similar :hihi:

My partner can not understand the my facination with the forum, the only question he asks me about the forum is' Are they slagging bus drivers off again'?!,to which i reply 'yes'(goes without saying) and he can not understand why i continue to come on here as that particular subject grates on me as you might have gathered. But i just tell him its my mission to stand up for my former mates.
I also tell him its all the other useful info you can find on here that keeps me coming back for my fix.

IntoOblivion - maybe you should let him know who you are ;) That way he will not try chatting you up.

I know quite a few people who sign up under a different name to the one they use most often - just so they can spy on their partner. Seems like a lack of trust to me.

Ah well - your choice.

My partner actually got me into sheffield forum. She checks it everyday. But doesn't post, although occasionally under my name.
I've found I'm on it most nights, think I'm getting addicted.
