View Full Version : The Blades win and the errrrmmmmm owls dont win
canadablade 15-03-2008, 17:11 3 on the bounce for the Blades with a great 2-0 win against Norwich and Billy Sharp on the scoresheet again ;)
A good point for wednesday at Coventry but doesn't really help them as Leicester won 4-1 :o at WBA and its one more game off the fixture list.
I think we can safely say the Blades are now safe of any fear of the drop and can try and push on for a play-off spot, the one that Charlton Pathetic seem to be throwing away, come to think of it has anyone seen Cheeky **** Bandit on here gobbing off lately ?
Good win for utd.Good point for the owls without playing well.Three home games coming up which will almost certainly decide our season.
not wanted 15-03-2008, 17:36 I think there is still an outside chance of a play off spot. If we win the game in hand we have over a lot of the teams above us it leaves us 5 points off 6th place. We have lost once in the league since we lost at Hillsbrough and our run in doesn't look to bad.
discodown 15-03-2008, 17:40 The leagues so tight if you do set off on a miraculous run and just don't lose you may well nick a spot but its extremely unlikely
Cmon lads, I know it's 3 on the trot, but playoffs ???
If Kevin had come in earlier, then maybe, but let's be realistic, not like them from S6, who think they won't go down.
All we can do is try to finish well this season and then have a real good shot at it next season (unless Mr McCabe can get us up via the courts).
Hey, it's just occured to me, did KEVIN Blackwell get the job as he happens to have the same name as KEVIN McCabe ???
It could be worse, he could have got somebody in as manager with the name Bryan --- oh my god, he once did !!!!
if he had the same name as mccabe he would be called mccabe
NERVY-OWL 15-03-2008, 19:47 errm, davep, why dont you have a look at previous threads and have a look at how many owls fans on here have said we will definately stay up, think you will find theres not many that have said that. as for todays games, i'm happy with a point, gives me a bit more confidence we can do it. as for the blades, i dont see why you cant make playoffs. if you keep up the good form then who knows, only 6 points off i believe

I said three games ago that we probably needed 11 wins in a row ... we've got the first three of them
Scariest thing for the Owls right now is not how bad they are - they don't look all that horrific - but that nobody else looks all that bad either. Too many teams at the bottom are getting good results. It could be an all-time record number of points that goes down.

I think we from S6 are being realistic, looking at our recent form compared with others.
A freak result knocked us into the bottom three tonight, but we won't be there for long. UTO!
(Oh, and that's right- try and get up via the courts when you don't really deserve to be there)
A freak result (at Old Trafford ) took us down last season, but unfortunately freak results are a bit like freak weather these days, they seem to be more and more common.
The reference to the courts was "tongue in cheek". We may get a bit of cash if we're lucky.
NERVY-OWL 15-03-2008, 20:19 we are playing well enough to stay up but the strikers do worry me, we really need goals or we are in trouble. thank god we dont concede many
blueandwhite 15-03-2008, 20:27 I'll take a point today. If we can pick up points and play that bad you've got to be happy.
I'll take a point today. If we can pick up points and play that bad you've got to be happy.
Why?!?!
We are not in a position to get the odd point here and there. Every game is essential to win now. If we keep getting draws to the teams around us then we're down I'm afraid.
I can't wait for this season to be over, it's been rubbish. Except for that result in January.
canadablade 15-03-2008, 20:57 we are playing well enough to stay up but the strikers do worry me, we really need goals or we are in trouble. thank god we dont concede many
Playing well
Just a little bit off soccernet for you David.
Two superb saves in the last 15 minutes from goalkeeper Lee Grant ensured Sheffield Wednesday held on for a goalless draw against fellow Coca-Cola Championship strugglers Coventry at the Ricoh Arena.
Songo'o was perhaps lucky to stay on the field after a bad foul on Daniel Fox, with Grant and Tommy Spurr then making it three Owls cautioned inside the opening half an hour.
The Owls made a change of their own moments later when Burton O'Brien took over from Songo'o in a tactical switch.
But it was Coventry who came within a whisker of taking the lead when Mifsud fired in from 12 yards which forced a fantastic save out of Grant at the expense of a corner, which was cleared by Deon Burton.
Mifsud then had another couple of shots around the 80-minute mark which were both blocked by Mark Beevers, before the Malta international struck what looked to be a winner from 20 yards with six minutes left, only for Grant to tip it round the post.
Shots (on Goal) Coventry 14(9) owls 5(2)
Time of Possession 54% 46%
3 home matches will seal your fate, I think you need 5 points from them and you should get 3 off Coventry who i think will come for the 0-0 draw a bit like you lot when there for the 0-0 draw today.
Robbie Loving 16-03-2008, 10:13 Lets be fair, Norwich were a very poor side. However we played some good football at times, and how we kept it down to 2 I don't know.
Sharp guilty of missing amazing chance, but it was his best performance I've seen from him.
Hulse had his best game since returning from injnury, Cotterill his best game since joining and my MOTM
Great win for the Blades & a good hard working point for the Owls.
fnkysknky 16-03-2008, 12:22 Hulse was absolutely immense yesterday, the ball stuck to him like glue - back to the form he was showing last year, just needs to score now :)
I agree about Cotterill being MOTM and if he can keep that up I'd be more than happy for us to sign him..... even with those awful boots.
They all performed yesterday, even Naysmith.....
Robbie Loving 16-03-2008, 13:20 They all performed yesterday, even Naysmith.....
Best performance I've seen from Naysmith to be honest.
Bit disappointed with Tonge, but he's still better than earlier on in the season.
PROMOTION HERE WE COME :D
mrsteabag 16-03-2008, 13:28 Why?!?!

It was a freak result and won't be repeated ;)

got to agree with all of that Robbie, how we werent 3 up at half time I'll never know. Was cursing Sharp for missing the sitter as i had a fiver on him again to score first, but he came through and made me another £35, second time in a week you little beauty! nice to see a bit of football that actually got us "out of our seats" for a change. good riddance robbo, lets hope the Blades are back!
Robbie Loving 16-03-2008, 13:54 2 wins at lane when kicking towards Kop in first half...... LETS KEEP IT LIKE THAT
mrsteabag 16-03-2008, 14:04 2 wins at lane when kicking towards Kop in first half...... LETS KEEP IT LIKE THAT
I always hated it when they did that, but can't change the winning formular now can we :D
freyasdad 16-03-2008, 16:36 Was it our best performance this season like my mates told me?
Looking forward to going to the land that time forgot next week.

best performance for a long time . norwich werent that bad ,kenny had to pull a great save off ,even morgs getting decisions off ref when have seen him doing same thing outside box and getting booked, confidence coming back to players .
Robbie Loving 16-03-2008, 16:58 norwich werent that bad .
Can't agree,
Norwich were absolutely shocking.

:hihi::hihi::hihi::hihi::hihi:
NERVY-OWL 16-03-2008, 21:26 obviously we cant get too many draws, we really need a couple of wins aswell but it will do give the team confidece to stay unbeaten, still worried we might not have enough goals in us. cb, they have been playing well, not dazzling football like man u, arsenal etc but neither have the blades and as for you saying songo'o should of seen red, think that makes up for johnson getting sent off against west brom, maybe losing a point
canadablade 17-03-2008, 03:30 cb, they have been playing well, not dazzling football like man u, arsenal etc but neither have the blades and as for you saying songo'o should of seen red, think that makes up for johnson getting sent off against west brom, maybe losing a point
I didnt say it mate, all i did was cut and paste for you from the report on soccernet.com :suspect:
Robbie- - i agree with your comments about hulse, cottrill and sharp but don't you think morgan was man of the match- he was immense in my eyes and won every single header and ball he went for- a real captains performance on his 150th start for the blades.
NERVY-OWL 17-03-2008, 11:54 true cb but i wasnt talking about just this game, more about last few where wednesday have been playing well. i've not heard many reports from this game so you could be right but a point is better than nothing
crookesey 17-03-2008, 12:17 Playing well

But apart from that. :hihi:
F. Sidebottom 17-03-2008, 12:36 I woudn't go as far as to say Wednesday are playing well. But the results show we aren't playing 'bad'. You can have a lucky win every now and again, but when you are picking up points consistently, then you can't be considered bad.
Since the turn of the year, Wednesday (in the league) have won 5, drawn 3 and lost 5.
That's 18 points from 13 games. Over the course of a season, that ratio of points per game would see us end on about 64 points, which would have ensured 13th place last season.
The problem we have though is that everyone else is picking up points. At the turn of the year we were in 22nd place. We still are, despite picking up 18 points from 13 games.
If we carry on at this ratio though (which I'm not saying we will), we should end up on 55 points (which got 18th place last season). I can't see a team going down on that many points.
NERVY-OWL 17-03-2008, 12:53 yea, cant see us going down on 55.think 52 should do it though, whatever we finish on, wednesday will make it difficult for themselves
Robbie Loving 17-03-2008, 17:28 don't you think morgan was man of the match- he was immense in my eyes and won every single header and ball he went for- a real captains performance on his 150th start for the blades.
Its what is expected ;)
He has upped his performance ever so much from the begining of the season.
Earwiggo 19-03-2008, 11:50 Wednesday aren't doing too bad, but where are the stated 52 and 55 points coming from?
I still maintain we'll only get 49.confused:
We've not got Billy Sharp,
We've not got Billy Sharp,
We've not got Billy Sharp,
Are we bothered?
NERVY-OWL 19-03-2008, 13:08 i didnt say we'd get 52 points, just think we'll be ok if we can get them. maybe we'll only get 49, i dont know, i dont like guessing what we'll end up on, just hope they pick up enough

Of course you are with all the plethora of quality strikers you have.:)

We do actually have 10 players (including 1 defender) who have scored as many as or more goals than Billy 'didn't quite turn out to be that' Sharp this season.
Wednesday aren't doing too bad, but where are the stated 52 and 55 points coming from?
I still maintain we'll only get 49.confused:
You've got Scunthorpe, Coventry, Blackpool, Leicester and Norwich still to come. The way you've been playing the last few weeks, all five of those are winnable; given that you won't win every game you can win, but will pick up some unexpected point as well, another 12 points doesn't look that hard.
And that's not counting the city derby, which despite me not wanting you to go down, I fervently hope you lose. :hihi:
