I' ve been to a club last night (too loud music) and still have this nasty beeping in my ear. I had this before and it usually disappeared after a night, but now it doesn't. Is this normal? I am really scared that it won't go away. Anyone experienced this before and can tell me when I should really start to worry and whether I should consult a doctor? I've heared there is not much you can do against it. Thanks!

Pardon? Check the smoke detector battery!!:heyhey:

But, seriously, of course you should check with your doctor as soon as possible. Even if it only to be reassured that you are OK.
They will see if there is any inflamation or other cause and if they think it necessary, you can be referred to a hearing specialist who can see if any damage exists.

Damage can be cumulative and as you seem susceptible perhaps you should consider earplugs for clubbing.

You should wear earplugs next time, I do. I suffered with tinnitus really bad after a short career as a sound engineer. Could never sleep and it aged me.
Has got better since. What's worse is if you go for a hearing test, and they show you the bits that are attenuated in your hearing spectrum, that is permanent..
I have trouble hearing people speaking softly now if I'm walking along side traffic, or if there is water flowing.

It's noise Induced Hearing Loss. The same as if you worked in heavy industry without hearing protection.
There you'd have a claim!

Sounds like a very similar situation to I was in a year or so ago. Went into club with friends and after 2 hours in there I started to hear bum notes and when I came away everyone else could hear and even the next day I couldn't hear some things properly. In addition to that I had a loud ringing in my ears.

Best thing to do of course is to sit down with your GP and talk about it. Suprisingly they should take it quite seriously after all the majority of times it can be a quality of life thing so you should be able to get reffered to the Audiology unit at the Hallamshire. Luckly for both you and I the Hallamshire has some of the most world reknowned tinitus consultants and has more of them than anyone else in the UK.

In the mean time the best thing to do (sounds impossible I know) but try to forget about it. The more you concentrate on it the more you will notice it and it becomes a viscious circle until you really do start to have other symptoms like depression and stress.

Overall I can promise you this - it does get better with time as long as your are willing to work on it. The Hallamshire offered me everything from white noise generators to group therapy sessions and both do help as you can talk to others in the same situation and of course then you don't feel like your suffering alone.

Oh and on the subject of compensation - you'd be lucky - I explored that route and you'll find because you were not employed by the club you're not covered. I was told that I knew it was gonna be loud in there and therefore it's my hard cheese....

Good luck and if you need any other advice just message me and I'll see what can do.

As a teenager I frequented our local 'disco' which played it's music far too loud. As a result I have tinnitus and have had for many years. I too used to have the ringing and it went away but now it's there all the time. It only really bothers me when it's quiet when I'm in bed for instance. I have a 'ticking' clock to have something to concentrate on and it does take the edge off a bit.

The morale to this tale is if you live life in noisy clubs/bars then be sure that you'll suffer for it later.

If the tinitus does not go away after 48hrs see a specialist...could be a burst ear drum or hole in drum...my dad had it...hes alway listening to load music now....half deaf, had to have an operation.
Don't want to scare you but your ears are so important.

I had it last week, shouted at the taxi driver cos I could hardly hear...stood too long next to the bongos at hed kandi hee hee

Dunno about compensation, there is always a sound engineer wondering around at the leadmill checking loadness with his gadget. Perhaps there is a duty of care to the peole in the club. You never see signs saying it's going to be load.
After all mcdonalds was sued as somone was burnt by coffee. Now they put cautions on the cup.

Thanks for your help. I really appreciate it.
I went to the uni-doctor (not a specialist) who told me she couldn't see any damage and the beeping should go away in a couple of days, but if not she couldn't do anything, anyway. The beeping isn't loud anymore, but I still can hear it at night when everything is silent. Usually I liked going to sleep, now I am scared of. :( Do you think there is a chance that it still goes away?
@ Torin: Could you give me the address of the Hallamshire hospital? What exactly can they do? Thanks!

P.S. Never understood these clubs ...

I've had tinitus for up to a week before (I used to play in a very loud band) and it went away, so don't panic yet, but do try and take care of your ears in the future, treat this as a warning of things to come if you're not careful.
