does anyone out there remember the wiggy`s gas pipes. I had one about 1952. They were not held in high regard among enthusiasts but it served me well and never let me down and above all it was cheap, i bought it out of money saved from a paper round,my parents were funny like that. If you desired something then work and save for it was their motto. I can`t remember the price but it took ages to save for it , I think the paper round paid about seven shillings a week. I haven`t actually said what it was and suspect some of the younger readers wont know what it is............then again as far as I know they may still be sold and valued as a fashion icon in this day and age.
My Dad had one.
I wouldn't be seen dead on it, and had to go to the posh shop on Langsett Road for mine.
Dad signed the papers, but I had to pay 10 bob a week from mi paper round untill the 31 quid was paid.
There's a link under "Wigfalls Showroom Firth Park":
"My Elder brother bought his first bikefrom"Wiggys" on Infirmary Rd,opposite the old Infirmaryl A "Wiggys"gas pipe cost £3 19 6 at a shilling a week 1935 that was".

Flippin eck I'd forgotten about those.
I had one in the late 50s you certainly could not lift one like todays bikes.
Stirmy Archer gears in the rear wheel hub.
If one of those hit a car today the car would come off worst.
Great for building up the leg muscles though. Lol
It was My first bike, it was second hand and it was a girls bike, (no street cred what so ever)
but i did'nt give a "monkeys" it had cable brakes, dropped handle bars,3 speed gears and a fixed wheel option,
WOW!! That bike took me on great adventures to Totley, Foxhouse, Gainsborough!! and the ultimate expedition, Two of us cycled from Edmund Rd to Belle Vue Manchester, ate our sandwiches, a shared bag of chips and cycled back. Must have been 1958-9 and we were 13-14 years old.
Wiggies Gas pipe"" Many thanks for bringing back the memories.
Asti.
I recall that we used to call them Wiggies twisted gas pipes.
