watched it on tv tonight and actually quite enjoyed it. I'm coming back to sheffield 2moro for the weekend and think i might try and go to one of the events. Does anybody have any info on events eg time and place? I tried ringing the box office but it went to a queue.

We are going on Sunday to watch the Sumo and Cycling - can't wait !!

The tickets for the finale/champion of champions are sold out now but the fact they are still giving the tel no out on tv must mean tickets for other events are still available!!

I think it is great this happens in Sheffield!!!!!

I hope it remains this way for years to come!!

We really enjoyed it tonight - the celebs were great especially Jayne Middlesmiss who was happy to sign autographs and pose with fans for photos - I was disappointed with Jamie Theakston though....he never came out of the 'goldfish bowl' to see fans at all!!

Dispite my previous post tickets are still available from what the organisers said tonight so get down to the box office and support the show - not many shows come to Sheffield year after year!!

Jamie Theakston never comes out to see the fans I hear at any of The Games nights.. which is a bit crap really.

Any tickets left for the remaining nights though?
According to the Hallam FM box office- some are sold out?

AND

I was a bit disappointed watching tonight.
2 things really.

Anna Walker should have won the womens and also WTF was going on with Phils scores... he was crap on the night and he still came higher than the other competitors????
WTF were the judges thinking.

Shiesh
29-03-2005, 02:00
I agree his vault was rubbish on the night compared to the other competitors and he got an extra point for pb!!!!

Jonathan has walked...it's all falling to pieces!!

I have a spare ticket for Saturday we bought five for the Champion of Champions night too but we found out when we went to EIS on Sunday that under 5's are free so got a spare ticket if anybody needs one as I think this event is now sold out!!!

Its about time Jonathan walked out!!
The guy is a self obsessed nutter and it looks like he's going for a nervous breakdown if he is not carefull.

The celebs in there should remember what The Games is all about- its for charity- not for getting their ego's back onto our screens.

Jonathan should take note of this.

I started watching The Games last week and was quite interested in the mix of folks they had to compete. Phillip Olivier and Kirsty Gallacher obviously looked to be the strongest on paper, but the spread of events was challenging and the other contestants seemed to be in with a chace of pulling off a few upsets.

This seemed to be the way things were going as Phillip won the power-lifting and the sumo while Kirsty deservedly beat the others in the hurdles and swimming events.

Then the judges gave Mel Giedroyc a DQ for her foot touching the hurdles...after allowing Anna Walker to fall and still finish the event with a placing!

Phillip winning the vault after making such a mess of his attempt was an insult to the other contestants. There was some talk of his scoring high for attempting a more complex vault than the others, but surely the fact that he screwed up while they pulled off better efforts on simpler vaults can't entitle him to score more points?

And let's face it, even Mel pulled off a better gym floor than Kirsty...is it possible that the judges were watching something other than Kirsty's actual performance when they scored her?

I'm quickly loosing enthusiasm for the whole show...perhaps Jonothan Morris walked for a good reason.

"I'm quickly loosing enthusiasm for the whole show...perhaps Jonothan Morris walked for a good reason."

This is part of the reason he walked, he was upset that he scored less than Phil and that Phil got a PB even though he messed up!

Judge: "The others performed vaults, but I liked the way Phillip went 'YEEEHAAWW' and pretended to be a cowboy...9.9 out of 10."

Hi...I knew because was was watching the games live on E4 til early hours of the morning - it went off air for about 20mins then all the athletes were wandering around shocked/amazed and were referring to him quitting etc etc - Craig Charles was really gutted as saw him as his competition etc!!

News in the camp was that he had checked into a local hotel and would not be rejoining them - Craig Charles thought he'd come back next morning but the others all seemed to realise it probably wasn't going to happen and he'd spat his dummy out for good!!!

My posting was made at 2.00am in the morning!! So unless you were watching at the time you wouldn't have known til it formally announced!! I think it went off air so he could explain to them his reasons and get his stuff!!

I didn't like him much....bit uptight/too serious!!!

On the positive side, it is nice to know that Endemol, the makers of The Games, Big Brother and Fame Academy have found the Forum.

I am sure there is a concept for another TV Programme to be found in amongt the posts , threads and chat room here.

Just so long as they hire my helicopters for the aerial shots!

Great seeing Rother Valley on the telly tonight, well what you could see in the dark :)

Really felt for Craig when he fell off the ramp that really must have hurt as he was in pain before he started.

He really does have the right attitude unlike certain others

Is it me or is The Games getting really boring really fast?

The same people are winning time and time again and Im getting a bit pig sick of seing smug Phil and Kirsty knowing that they are going to win again.

Im personally rooting for Craig Charles and Mel Giedroyc- because they are 2 celebs who are really genuine and can appreciate the fans and they are both people I can relate to.

I did feel really sorry for Craig falling off the ramp as it must have bloody well hurt tonight but unlike some cack celeb who decided to quit- as least CC had the guts to do it- injury and all.

Has anyone seen any other celebs at the games supporting the athletes by the way? Last year there was quite a few going!

Shiesh
31-03-2005, 00:35
Yeah I agree in previous years it has always been a much closer thing...this year it does seem to be a one dog race in the mens and the womens....... but the real people that will be winners in the long term...well I hope.... are Mel & Craig...because people like this are real 'ducks out of the water' and deserve real recognition for their achievements!!!

I think they know they have proved themselves halfway through and I have much more respect for them than any winner who wiped the floor on all events!!

As for Jonathan.....I am sorry but quitters don't rank at all!!!!

Quitters-- I really do hate quitters I gotta say.
Especially when its for good causes and charities.

Jonathan being and acting weird was one thing - but then quitting like a total drama queen.. so not clever.

Sorry to change topic as well.. but on the theme of quitters.

I think you dont really recover your image or reputation in the eyes of joe public if you are seen to quit on any sport or anything thats picked up in the media these days.

ie: Paula Radcliffe.
She will now always be remembered as the athlete who quit in the olympics- a quitter for life. However hard she tries now - that one event will remain with people always.

You dont see Ellen McArthur quitting- now that lady deserves some respect- sailing around the world SOLO would frighten the crap outta me and she has got the guts and the bottle to show the entire world that she could manage it.

Thats a true brit and a true athlete for me.

ThankU

I think it was great to watch. A variety of games done by 'non athletes' who had probably never even attempted some of those events before. They improved loads and actually put in some surprisingly good performances - I was especially impressed by the trampoline event.
I hardly knew who anyone was, but I never do anyway...

I can only speak highly of the Games I went last night to Don Valley and what a fantastic atmosphere with lots of entertainment and been able to appear live on Channel 4 what more could anyone ask for?

And Philip Olivier Won and also Kirsty for the ladies.....excellent.

If anyone does knock the Game I will not understand why as people that where there last night were from all over the place and to bring those people to Sheffield must surely be good.

Yes it certainly showed we can put on sporting events of all kinds. Steve Bunce the boxing commentator says Sheffield has the best sports facilities in the UK. Jane Middlemiss was very nice about is too.

I know Im in an evil mood tonight but I had to laugh out loud when smug phil ended up on his arse after trying to be clever and pick up a weight he could not possibly lift to try and look good.

Harvey and James Hewitt made him look a complete cock, which is what he really is.. He does not like to lose and he gets the tits on when he does.

And its just unfortunate that Harvey did not have the chance to sprint past him on the Relay... that would have made my week complete.

But he can lift it, he just didn't on that night. He lifted 83kg during the games and is the current record holder so has lifted more than Harvey and James Hewitt!
