My boss has just tried to place a bet on a Ferguson double, Man U winning the Premiership and Peterboro winning the Division 2 title, but was told that all betting has been suspended on The Posh. Any ideas?

Bet365 are still offering odds. 5/4 2F at the moment, with Franchise FC the 6/5F, 15/2 bar. Can't find any news on any betting being suspended.

I didn't think that effectively one "runner" could be removed from a race. They would have to change all the others to "without Peterborough" or stop taking bets on the entire outcome?

They can just refuse to accept bets on Peterborough - if, for example, they have enormous liabilities on that club and only want to lay the others. They'd have to be pretty abysmally bad bookmakers to get in that position in the first place, though; which Ladbrokes aren't. If they were, they wouldn't still be in business.

I have no idea why the OP's boss was denied his bet on Peterborough. It's a new one to me.

You're right in that, if they suspended betting, they'd do it on the whole market, not just one club. If they thought there was something "rigged" about that division, they'd suspend all bets, not just those on 'Boro.

In order to refuse to accept bets on one runner, they would just make the price longer than the other big firms. Thus no sane punter will take the price

From my (long ago) bookmaking days, I think that's called an "uneven book" and happens quite often where the field is relatively wide open in sports like snooker and golf and an outsider progresses through the competition.

When he told us we thought it was strange too. :suspect:

If it had been me I would have asked why, but in his defence it was only his second ever visit to a bookies. The previous time he took a few quid off 'em so i wonder if that was the reason. :hihi:

I want MK Dons to win the L2 title and paul ince to be catapulted into the championship being headhunted by one of the favorites to go up 2008/09 season.
