Hi,
During the storms a few weeks ago, our fence was blown down. I live in a terraced house and I was wondering who's responsible for the fence. Its the left hand side of the garden. Is it us that owns the left side or is it the right? I'm hoping we own the right side!
Thanks, Zip.
The only way of knowing for definite is to check your plans.
On our property we own the left side as you look down the garden.
You need to check your deeds.
We're in a mid-terrace and the fences on both sides of our back yard are owned by our neighbours on the respective sides. Saves me the hassle of maintaining them, but also I can't keep them looking as nice as if they were mine. That's life though.

either the deeds for your house or the lease if it's leashold show show a plan with "T"'s on the boundaries indicating who's responsibility each boundary/fence is....i.e. whether the "T" faces towards or away from your boundary indicates who's responsibility it is....

So if the T is on your side, is it yours or is it the other sides?
When I first saw the thread, I thought it was going to be about side of the bed you sleep on oooops!
You have already been given the correct advice for your question :)
Do a search. This was asked a few weeks ago and there were some very helpful replies

if the "T" is on your side it's your responsibility to keep it in good repair
bertie bassett got it right. we are responsible for the fence to the right of our property if you view it looking at the front.
why not have a chat to go halves then your neighbour should keep their side painted etc.
if you install the fence," best side" should go to the neighbours for some stupid reason, but they aren't allowed to nail or fix anything to it.
