View Full Version : This is what happens when you are neighbourly
uncleheed 09-03-2005, 19:54 I arrived home from work tonight to find a large amount of mail piled behind the door.It turned out that most of it was for one of the neighbours.
Now I can't stand the person in question so I was all for blue binning it.When the missus came home, she said we should take it round. So,we sent our 10 year old son round to stick it through the letter box.Our thinking was that he goes to school with her son,so it would avoid any confrontation between us,as it has happened in the past.
So,he makes his way up the path, and she has her dog tied up on a very long chain, and it bit him on the bum.Luckily he managed to jump the wall before could get hold of him,but if he hadnt been on his toes,it could have been nasty.
We decided on not going around when she came in because we have had words in the past, and she ended up kicking me between the legs, and dragging Mrs heed to the ground by her hair. Its only because I cannot hit a woman that she didn't get a hiding that time.
What do other members think my best course of action should be.I personally want to shoot the dog, because it is outside barking all the time anyway. We have tried to report this to the council before, but she always seems to be one step in front. The excuse she gives is that she is disabled,(if being about 22 stone is a disabilitiy)and also is American so she plays the race card, believe it or not.
So please post your suggestions here.
MovingOn 09-03-2005, 20:01 Get in touch with your local council and report the dog's behaviour to the Dog Warden. Okay, your son was on her property, but it wasn't as if he was doing anything illegal.
I can understand why the postman has chosen to post the mail through your mail slot than take on the dog himself. You could report the matter to the Post Office - it is against the law to deliver mail knowingly to the wrong address.
Another thing you could do in future, is pop it back in the mail box - make sure you put on the envelope DELIVERED TO WRONG ADDRESS BY POSTMAN - it will avoid confrontation with the daft old bag.
Good luck.
Sounds like the postman may have been bitten on the bum by this dog too - hence it ending up at your house.
I'd report what happened to the police - see what they say.
I'd also stick any more post you get for her back in the post box & let the post office sort it :)
Having been bitten by a dog before, i would suggest having words with the Police. They were quite understanding wehn i got bit, and they went round and told the owner to keep the dog under control or there would be further action. Seemed to work for me?
A =)
if it were me pal id let the council have a go at dealing with it firstly. in the past ive seen these situations escalate and become very violent. if that fails then maybe you need to take some action , be it legal or not you cant let people intimidate you. im not in your position but can imagine it can be stressfull and not an ideal family situation as regards atmosphere. sometimes people with a very low iq only no one thing?.
Report the bite to the police.
The large amount of post on your doormat was probably because the postie chickened out of negotiating with the dog.
The post should have just gone back in the post box - then it would remain the responsibility of the Royal Mail :D
And did you report the assault last time? The police are now obliged to make an arrest in every reported case of assault.
uncleheed 09-03-2005, 20:07 I did ring the police when it happened,(about 6 o clock),and they said that they would send someone around.Still no sign at quarter past nine.
I am taking the number to work to ring the council and dog warden tomorrow.
On a lighter note, I have told my son that if he thinks that the nip the dog gave him hurt, wait untill he has a tetanus jab.And also not to think of a career as a postman!!
I know it sounds cruel, but it put a smile on his face.
frenchfrie 09-03-2005, 20:08 Don't shoot the dog - it's not to blame - from what you say it's not exercised, bored, etc etc.. so the blame lays with.......?

If the old bag's mail comes through your door again, just chuck it over the fence into her garden. She'll complain to the post office. Don't forget to smear it in dripping first so the dog chews it up a bit.
Don't know what our legal responsibilities are for wrongly delivered mail to our homes though.

Magneteer 09-03-2005, 22:05 Saxon and Depoix's suggestions are brilliant, I would be inclined to go for it. Forget the Police and the Council, they just won't be interested in such matters (not from your side anyway). Do let us know the outcome!
1Man&hisBMW 09-03-2005, 22:21 get some lock cutters on long handles and let the dog loose!
Swan_Vesta 10-03-2005, 10:52 Depoix - It works best if you push the laxative into some sausage meat and then set it down. Not that I speak from personal experience you understand : )
Uncleheed, As previously suggested I'd call the RSPCA/Dog warden, but most importantly get photos of any injuries your lad sustained should they be needed in future. If this woman is so bloody horrible then I'd rein in any neighbourly concern and dump the mail in the post box and then steer well clear. If people want to act like toerags then they're not worth a reasonable persons time, consideration or effort.
Threaten to sue her, that should scare her if she is American.
muddycoffee 10-03-2005, 11:02 How about screwing up each item of mail into a ball, and throwing it over the yapping dog towards her front door. YYou could make it into a game, where any direct hit on the letter box is 100 points, and missing the building is no points, if you get the door it is 10 points. If you get 1000 points in a week she has to buy you an ice cream.
aaahhh Ice cream Lovely,,,,,,,
Here's another suggestion.
Put all her mail into a large envelope which will fit into a post box - add a sheet of hardboard for weight - seal it, and address it to her without any stamps on.
When it's delivered SHE'LL have to pay unpaid postage.
Luckily she'll not be in so the postie will leave a card instructing her where to collect it from - hopefully miles away! She'll have to pay the postage before they let her have it and you can bet natural curiosity ensures she pays. Picture her chubby face when she pays up, opens it, and finds out the lot was junk mail anyway.
Sounds like she needs the exercise, and she can have a go at the post office on their own turf.

Sam Miguel 10-03-2005, 19:05 This sort of thing makes me sick. There seem to be more inconsiderate neighbours around these days than decent ones.
Just what is becoming of us?
Please, don't shoot the dog: shoot the stupid-cow-of-a-woman who owns it instead.
