View Full Version : Decent Bathroom Suite
Speed Dates 11-03-2008, 16:47 Hi
We already have a plumber lined up to fit our new bathroom but we have yet to buy the bath, toilet and wash basin.
Can anyone recommend anywhere to go and buy them from? We don't want to go mega cheap but don't want something massively expensive.
Many thanks.
jl-heating 11-03-2008, 17:57 rhs stavely. they have an excellent showroom and in stavely chesterfield..
ChrisTPS 11-03-2008, 19:13 I agree with John.
Excellent range, quality stuff, and reasonable prices. The staff are really helpful too.
or alternatively ask the plumber to recommend something, after all he is fitting it and it may side step you potentially buying something that is not suited to the space you have to work with.
toptotty1117 12-03-2008, 18:09 How about www.bathstore.com?
How about www.bathstore.com?
NO, NO & THRICE NO!
ChrisTPS 12-03-2008, 19:41 Purely my opinion of Bathstore:
1. Well layed out showroom, and good looking bath ware.
BUT - When I've asked them technical questions about the stuff they've sold, they haven't had the answers in my experience.
I avoid choosing bathroom suites for customers because tastes differ.
The best bet is to look at brochures/showrooms, decide what you want, then get 2 or 3 quotes. Get the installer to supply. He makes a profit, but you don't have the problem if there are any faults.
jl-heating 12-03-2008, 21:13 dont use bathstore, the quality is horrendous. lift a toilet up and show it to a window you can straight through the pot, sinks and pedestals are twisted, cradles for the baths flimsy..
cheap is not always cheerfull.

Also be very careful ordering stuff off eBay. The are generally very cheaply made in China or Turkey with poor quality non standard fittings that make it a nightmare for fitters.
davedrfc 14-03-2008, 09:45 We got ours from Steve at Plumbing Works, 782 Ecclesall Rd. Its just a little place but the selection and service was great
He was very helpful, got us an excellent price and delivered it all free of charge, within a week.
Unlike B & Q who told us that if we wanted a shower mixer tap rather than the basic bath tap it would take 6 weeks delivery, rather than just walk away with it! :loopy:

This sort of thing always makes me laugh. Why do bathroom sales people need to have the technical knowledge of a plumber? The bloke that sells you a car doesn't have the technical knowledge of a mechanic so why should they?

Yes a laugh indeed, especially you've been sold a power shower that the salesman assured you would work with your combi boiler or the mains extractor fan that's can only go directly above the bath.
As for the car analogy, when was the last time you bought your in bits that you had to assemble at home. Unless it was a kit car of course. :hihi:
We need to buy a new bath too, but I've no idea what makes a quality bath - what should we look for?
ChrisTPS 05-04-2008, 08:29 Thanks for your support FYTC.
An example of Bathstore: The resin feet for their free standing baths have no means on them for permanent fixing to bathroom floor. Their staff suggested that I used silicone sealant.
If you want a quality bath, go to the specialists and avoid the Sheds (B&Q, Homebase etc.)
RHS at Staveley are very good as JL says. Grahams, Plumco, and Plumb Centre sell quality equipment too.
Chris.
David-Lodge 08-04-2008, 12:50 I agree with the comments of bathstore, complete waste of time. RHS are my choice everytime.
theripsaw 08-04-2008, 14:53 My plumber was impressed with the quality (for the price) of a bath I bought from Bathstore.com. Dont write them off, but be careful what you buy! They must be doing something right.
People love to slate the big boys
