View Full Version : Meadowhall Oasis Modernisation
damo4real 23-09-2003, 14:29 well it's nearly finished (a year behind schedule and with a change of design!) meadowhalls food court knows as "the oasis" has seen it's "spanish" courtyard theme make way for steal glass and wood all in the name of modernisation! and they've also added more seating upstairs and made the upper level pretty much a full circle and they've also landscaped the outside of the oasis but what else have they done? i hear you ask well they added talking bins they say things like "thank you" when you place rubbish in them you can view the meadowhall press release here press release (http://www.meadowhall.co.uk/press_printable_body.cfm?ID=113)
yeah i was up there last night and wondered what was going on as the bin said "Thankyou" to me :)

- i can't wait till someone infiltrates the speaky machines with something that IS entertaining, any suggestions?!

kittykat 23-09-2003, 19:07 i noticed the other day the signs have been changed from sept 2003 to 2004 and it doesnt look anywhere near finished yet. No new restaurants though but im not too bothered because the existing ones are ok. The outside bits a mess at the minute.

ok? i think they are so substandard. its orchard square circa 1990 but with a macdonalds.

I've quite fond memories of the 'old' Oasis - I seemed to spend quite a bit of my early teens there. My dislike of junk food came in handy - I was often the entire queue at the baked potato place :D I'll have to go have a look at the place now. I'm sure it's a big improvement - classier - and will give a welcome boost to the centre, but I was a bit sad to see the old look being removed. It reminded me of a bad stage set which I thought quite appropriate. Manchester's equivalent centre had a decorated roof, which seemed wrong when you know it's false. I quite enjoyed the irony of the big, painted on columns 'holding up' a steel and crinkly-tin roof. Think I need to get out more :)
Anyone know what's going on in the Oasis, Mc Donald's and Go are boarded up, is it to do with the current refurb

I think so. One of the staff from a shop on the lanes told me a month or so ago that they were buliding one in the oasis. She said it would be a good thing as there are no pub type places in meadowhall any more. She could have got mixed up and given me wrong information though
As this thread is 8 years old know does anyone know if the refurbishment of the Oasis has finished yet? I'm thinking not if shops are still boarded up?

Finally it returns! worst decision they ever made was getting rid of the pubs. Wetherspoons rumoured for a while but dont know if anything has been confimred yet.

When you wish to raise a subject that was discussed eight years ago, you're bad burnt or scalded. People will whinge at you for starting a duplicate thread, or whinge at you for resurrecting an ancient one.
I would imagine, after eight years, that this is a whole new redevelopment from the last one. (Actually I suspect it's over eight years since I last went to Meadowhall!)
