Hi all,
Just wondering how many silly folk had put themselves into this torturous event in the summer?

Looking for likeminded people to train with.

My Swimming is absolutely shocking (18 months ago I could swim 2 lengths - no joke hehe), but good on bike and run.

Looking for training ideas / clubs etc etc.

Been on the Sheff Tri site, but it doesn't seem to have much updated info, and seems fragmented.

Any members out there got a more detailed idea of what goes on?

Would love to meet other people who have signed up.

Also raising some dosh for charity, so thinking up ideas for possible events to hit target.

Hi Banksy

I am sorry you found STC s website fragmented. We are working on it. We are a friendly lot at STC and provide loads of formal and informal training sessions. The calendar on the home page is up to date. If you want to work on your swimming, I suggest the Sat 6-7pm session at Graves where we focus on swim technique.

You can contact us via the website too.

Hi Banksy,

Take a look at novicecoaching.com for details of TNT, supposedly for novice triathletes but all abilities go along to training sessions.

Hi

I did it as a team event last year and it is awesome the atmosphere is amazing.

Do not worry to much about times the cycling and runnung in particular have plenty of slower competitors.Although training is of course essential and if you are like me you will want to get a half decent time.

Pond forge on tuesday and thursday evening is great for swimming as they open up the 50 meter lanes.

I was rubbish at crawl but have improved hugely by just going once or twice a week.

Ponds Forge also has Front Crawl classes on Wednesday evenings, 19.05 - 19.45, where you work on drills to improve your technique, £37.20 for 8 lessons.

For fitness sessions, there are the "swimfit" sessions which are Tuesday & Thursday lunchtimes, 12.15 - 13.15, where you work on leg kick, arm actions and then a training set. Mondays sessions are starting from 7th April.

There are a few triathletes, masters swimmers and lane swimmers who come to the sessions. You will be swimming in a lane with people of similar abilities. These are free to Fitness Unlimited members or £4.60 per session for non members.

Good luck with your triathlon.

Not doing the London one, but I am considering doing the Tatton Park Triathlon (http://www.tattontriathlon.co.uk/?gclid=CPq3-YzItZICFQ2HlAodMWxuMw), or a similar one in the summer (so as to give myself enough time to train). Having never done one before, I'd be interested in making new contacts with people who I can discuss training tips, advice, progress, moral support/motivation, or perhaps even training with a group, or a female training partner in their 30's like me who are at a similar fitness level-i.e not yet super fit. :)

I've just started training, so I consider myself a novice at this, and so I intend to just do the sprint marathon. Even at this level-this would be a big challenge for me, I think...so I couldn't keep up with ironmen. :)

This is something I have been looking into for one of fundraising events and even though I have done a fair bit of running and am reasonably fit, I havent known where to start and feared approaching a club. Advice would be gratefully received. I dont plan on doing one until a year or so, but never too early to get in the training I guess.

AO- look at the Sunday Runs thread, as one of three is running, for triathlon. Perhaps that's a start. (?)

The other two are swimming and cycling.

Just to point out that if you are not a STRONG swimmer, and even if you are. A mile in open water in a wetusit is a LONG way...

You should be under no illusions - Open water is tricky and can be very frightening.

Fortunately, we have 2 blogs which may help you

roadrunning.net (http://roadrunning.net)

& Insidetriathlon (http://insidetriathlon.org)

PM me if you need help

I'm a reasonable swimmer, but have never swum in open water. I'll have to find somewhere I can try it, before I commit.

I'll read the blogs, and might PM you, if that's OK....(?)

I need to know what is a reasonable time-frame to prepare and train for triathlon, for my level of fitness.

Time frame to prepare will be shorter if you have a background in any of the 3 sports or a bit longer if you have any sporting background.

If you have no sporting background - then yes you could do it this (calendar) year but it would probably take you a long time and hurt like hell afterwards

PM away...

AO(Agent Orange).

It's the cycling that worries me.

a) Do not have a bike. (someone nicked it-and it was a nice one that wasn't even worth much money-and it was MINE).

b) Don't want to spend money on a new bike. (I'm bitter).

c) I'm rubbish at changing gears. :)

Try contacting Sheffielf Tri club. They are not all super athletes and are friendly. They have a women's squad too.

The skill of cycling isn't changing gears, its knowing which gear to be in... its not the same thing.... :)

Go to your local (proper) bike shop - not supermarket. They will have a second hand bike or 10 for sale for sure.

Yes, We are really friendly at Sheffield Tri Club and not all olympic standard....

Im in for August, first timer and all that.

However I was down in London this weekend and although the swim is at the Excel Centre I couldnt help but look at the colour of the Thames.

Anyone else had thoughts about this?

Well done you will love it.I did it 2 years ago.

The atmosphere in London is amazing.

Dont worry to much about the colour of the Thames once you are in it the colour is the least of your worries ;) only joking !

They are extremly safety concious and you will get a safety briefing before you go in the water.

Dont worry to much about times just enjoy the day.

Im doing the London Tri this summer and as it is my first Im just wondering what kind of times people look for especially in the swim!

Is there a sweep bus like in the Sheff Half?

Are there others that plod round or even further back in the pack is it mega competative?

Any help would be great! 11 weeks to go!!!
