Anyone else watching Delia and wondering who she's aiming this programme at? Seems bizarre. And has she really just shown us how to cook oven chips? And as for the eggs/sauce/olives, has she actually lost it?

View Full Version : Delia - what is she doing? HotPhil 10-03-2008, 19:50 Anyone else watching Delia and wondering who she's aiming this programme at? Seems bizarre. And has she really just shown us how to cook oven chips? And as for the eggs/sauce/olives, has she actually lost it? I found this programme bizarre as well. I usually like her programmes, but some of the ingredients are quite hard to find. I think shes getting her nose pushed out of joint with the other celebrity chefs dont you ? elethiomel 10-03-2008, 19:53 Yes Just logged on here especially to say that. Mince from a tin? Is this cookery for the dumb? Ready cubed bags of swede? WTF HotPhil 10-03-2008, 19:57 And for the price of the ingredients of the salmon pie, couldn't you just pick up 4 fish pies from M&S on the way home? If she's aiming this at people who can't be bothered to cook, I'm not sure that's the same group of people who are going to have a pack of 12 quails eggs in the fridge! Geez - frozen mashed potato? Is this Delia's answer to Nigella's Expressway? I know who I'd rather telling me what to do ;) Tarquin 10-03-2008, 19:59 I wouldn't call Delia a "chef";) elethiomel 10-03-2008, 20:01 I think she's been sold a wrong 'un. She doesn't look comfortable and has someone desperately trying to tell us that using "short-cuts" is still somehow cooking. Agreed it's better than McDonalds but then so is shoe leather elethiomel 10-03-2008, 20:03 I wouldn't call Delia a "chef";) She never has been. She was a cook who did simple homemade fayre with big crusts and chunks of steak. A tradition. An old favourite, dependable and comforting. CHAIRBOY 10-03-2008, 20:27 Pleased to say she got a bit crusty with Harry Gration recently when she was doing a book signing which he was interrupting. garethb 10-03-2008, 21:09 She never has been. She was a cook who did simple homemade fayre with big crusts and chunks of steak. A tradition. An old favourite, dependable and comforting. And a bit...erm....you know...well....;) pattricia 10-03-2008, 21:12 Shes trying to learn us short cuts, but will take longer to shop for the ingredients than buy the food ready made.:gag: Tarquin 10-03-2008, 21:31 Shes trying to learn us short cuts, but will take longer to shop for the ingredients than buy the food ready made.:gag: Nice new avi Blondie babe Don_Kiddick 10-03-2008, 23:04 I wouldn't call Delia a "chef";) She could glaze my sausage roll :heyhey: bluecanary 12-03-2008, 16:05 There's something about the new series that doesn't quite ring true. She's trying to be all touchy-feely like Jamie Oliver etc, but can't quite carry it off. Also, it seems quite hypocritical to rant about other chefs promoting expensive organic and free range produce to the cash-strapped populus, then go on telly and make a pie from smoked salmon fillets and quails eggs! Maybe they should rename the show "Cooking for rich, lazy people". Still, no doubt she will carry on selling books, and as long as she continues to line the coffers of NCFC, I won't be complaining too much! nick2 12-03-2008, 16:34 And for the price of the ingredients of the salmon pie, couldn't you just pick up 4 fish pies from M&S on the way home? You could, but it will taste better if you make it instead of having something from the M&S factory. Mathom 13-03-2008, 08:42 Heh. Good old psychedelia with her mad ramblings! However, unlike the gimmicky loons like Oliver and Sweary Mary who just have an agenda to push, Delia is just selling the idea that convenience is perfectly OK, which it is! I'm fed up with seeing Hamster Cheeks sneering at people's cooking on things like Masterchef because they haven't used the politically correct organically grown, fairtrade sourced, took-you-fifteen-hours-to-prepare ingredients. Real people DO use convenience ingredients because it saves time. nick2 13-03-2008, 10:19 I'm all for convenience but most of the tinned/pre-prepared stuff is horrible, low quality with loads of salt and additives in it. Booch 13-03-2008, 14:27 Anyone else watching Delia and wondering who she's aiming this programme at? Seems bizarre. And has she really just shown us how to cook oven chips? And as for the eggs/sauce/olives, has she actually lost it? She's looking at the bigger picture - watching her bank balance grow...;) Rich 13-03-2008, 14:40 She could glaze my sausage roll :heyhey: She's far too old for you mate! :D Deavon 13-03-2008, 22:15 I laughed at the way the programme kept cutting from her cooking to clips of her lifestyle a la Jamie Oliver circa 1999. The only thing is, when Jamie was nashing about on a moped picking up fresh stuff from the market to "bosh" it all together for his mates, you could kind of relate to it. Even if only in an aspirational way. But with Delia; wether it's pottering about in her old crockery shed at the bottom of the garden (Oh yes, we've all got one of those) or slapping the bare bottoms of her footballers (Oh yes, we've all err... got one of those)!!? It's kind of ridiculous. Tarquin 13-03-2008, 22:25 I think see said back in 2003 that she was "receiped out"-says it all to me pattricia 13-03-2008, 22:27 I think see said back in 2003 that she was "receiped out"-says it all to me She has been good in the past, but feel shes past her best now. Its a pity she lets cooking interfere with her main job;):hihi: elethiomel 13-03-2008, 22:52 She has been good in the past, but feel shes past her best now. Just like her team then! ;) pattricia 13-03-2008, 22:53 Just like her team then! ;) Yes, thats correct. She has enough money to retire in comfort. discodown 14-03-2008, 06:50 Enough of the knocking. Delia is the queen. I won't have a word said against her! Tarquin 14-03-2008, 10:17 Enough of the knocking. Delia is the queen. I won't have a word said against her! I prefer Fanny beanpod 15-03-2008, 20:09 I did think that the recipes looked pretty gross. It was like using convenience food ingredients for the sake of it - take potato rostis out of the freezer, leave to thaw for about 30 minutes, before breaking them up to make... grated potato?! It's not even quick!! It would be quicker to boil and grate a proper potato!! Also with some of the ingredients she was using, a meal would cost a fortune - much more than a non-intensively reared chicken!!! |
