Wigan pitch not up to Prem standard and Officials not doing their job right. What a load of Crap!! Has Wenger not seen how bad the New Wembley pitch has cut up and can he say he has never gone to a "rough" pitch abroad in CL? As for Sir Alex, change the record for Pete's sake!! His "Ace" strikers were scrambling about trying to put the ball in the net like some kids in a playground.

Scottishdude, I contributed to a thread on Saturday that had been started by your very self - asking when are they going to do something about poor officials? Atkinson had a bad match at Old Trafford and I thought Ferguson was justified. I think that Ronaldo claim would have changed the game had the penalty been converted. Ferguson will be fined for his outburst, Atkinson continues 'at the office'!

That's a fair comment Chairboy and I stand by what I said about officials, but most of Man Utd's misses & scrambles were down to themselves. There was no Clinical Finishing by Man Utd on Sat compared to recent games. Sometimes they looked like they were panicking.

It was one of those days - I think that became clear when the ball struck Distin's standing leg on the line. The body shape of Evre when he struck the ball saved by James was superb. The Leeds v Sunderland cup-final, likewise Southampton v Man U, Wimbledon v Liverpool - these days happen but I think the Ronaldo 'foul' would have changed the shape of the game. I thought Atkinson was poor and recall a stonewall penalty he missed at Anfield last season, in that re-arranged Arsenal game? I also think Rooney was somewhat fortunate with his reckless challenge just to balance things up.

That may be a valid point but I recall the Shelton penalty denied, the Spurs Mendes 'goal' chalked-off amongst many incidents where the officials have got it wrong. I just like to see competence and justice and think the officials should be accountable. Unfortunately, we aren't privy to what Atkinson's reply was when Hackett may have asked him why didn't you give a penalty?
I think there are £M's gone begging on that one decision. I also saw that Rooney 'lunge' and the two defenders back to cover Baros!

(Pleased to say City is my nearest Premiership club!) but I think United play some lovely, flowing football. There are players I don't particularly like as people but Irwin, Solskjaer and Scholes have been three of my footballing favourites.

I think there are £M's gone begging on that one decision. Its hardly an isolated incident. There won't be a single club that hasn't lost out in one way or another due to a poor decision. Unforunately officials make mistakes, as we all do from time to time, afterall we are only human.

I just feel that the top few clubs usually get more than their fair share of lucky decisions and then just can't hack it when things don't go their way.

I tend to agree with the general trend here. United could have won that game, penalty or no penalty, and had it sown up before Portsmouth scored. They created far more chances than Portsmouth did. It suggests a lack of character if they can't put one poor decision behind them and get on with it. Also Disdan's tackle on Ronaldo - penalty or not - was no where near as bad as the one Rooney tried on Kranjcar later on. Rooney gets away with these on many occasions - even if not on this one. Its tough - but that's the way it is.

i agree man u had 80 odd mins to turn the game around after the penalty claim was dismissed, and cos fergie (who is used to getting his own way) couldnt win he spat his dummy out
