They keep putting up my credit limit even though I have specificly told them to reduce it on more than one occasion. Can I stop them doing this?

Phone and ask to speak to a manager - that should sort it.

have done before. They reduce it for a few months then put it up again

I don't trust them. I can imagine someone taking a load of money off my card who are based in another country and them failing to cover it.

This sounds very much like an automated thing probably done by a computer system.

You could write to them and tell them you no longer want them to make automated decision's about you under the Data Protection Act.

The wording is a bit confusing but it does specifically mention credit scoring.

Check it out... http://www.hmso.gov.uk/acts/acts1998/80029--b.htm#12

Of course, on the flip side they might just withdraw your credit altogether for being a difficult customer :)

Oh yeah.. I should just add the obligatory "I am not a lawyer" disclaimer. I would say "IANAL" but I'm afraid someone will agree

They put the daily cash withdrawal limit on my switch card to something silly like £350 so I rang them. I hardly ever use the facility, and certainly never take that amount out in one go.

The lady on the phone was puzzled. I explained that the only person who would use this facility would be a card thief, so I would like (very firmly) the limit lowered to £50.

This isn't an option on her screen, so she had to get it sorted by somebody else. I got the impression this was an eye opener to him too, but it was done. I think they now advertise this facility as a feature of banking with them

I have banked with HSBC since i got my first Live cash account when it was the Midland. I have never had a single problem with them, infact im just in the process of moving my mortgage to them and they have a regular saver account which pays 8% interest! Their customer service has always been top quality also.

must agree with my significant other (just for a change,:P )
i have been with halifax for 4 yrs, cheques can take 9-10 days to clear, yes i know thats because its not a clearing bank, but its damn annoying, but the hsbc gave me a switch card, cheque book and overdraft, (even tho i am currently between jobs), but when i opened my halifax, working full time, i got nothing but a solo card, halifax customer service is poor, i think HSBC are brilliant.
(i am doing a lot of ranting and raving today, arent i. sorry. :D

HSBC have always been great to me, they've changed my details as I've got older, giving me a solo, then a switch card, now a mastercard, interest free overdraft for being a Uni student... its all good, whenever I've had problems they've helped me sort them...

overdraft limits and credit card limits are only a problem if your a compulsive spender... so really, if your me or female... lol... but generally if you say to yourself "I can only afford to spend £200 on my card" and your limit is £2000... just only spend £200 :P its not like degree level logic going off there!

but I REALLY agree with the cash point withdrawl amount! I think mines about £250! I wish i HAD £250 to withdrawl! lol... but seriously, what sort of people withdrawl £250 in one day? I think the most I've taken in one day is about £40 or £50 :?

I don't really like HSBC, and at every opportunity, grumble about them; to cover the original point: Pop into the branch and see if you can speak to the branch manager.

The sort that have to pay for an item that they need to pay for in cash and can't get to a branch so need to use the machine. No seriously I've had times when the £250 limit has been too low admittedly not very often but if you are buying a large secondhand item the chances are you will have to pay cash and then it can be a bit of a bind if you can't get to branch.

I had really really bad problems with Halifax but have now transferred to HSBC. There was a bit of a teething problem but they sorted it out as soon as I made them aware of it, no grumbles unlike Halifax.

I decided I do truly love them today though. Last month I was charged a £20 late fee for a late payment on my credit card. Entirely my fault, I'd forgotten the date it was due but paid online the next day when I realised. Today I noticed that they've refunded me the late fee, which they had no reason to do. What lovely people.

My limit's £750 a day. The most I've ever withdrawn is a couple of hundred, typically I withdraw £30 or so at a time.

However, at the bank I work in, we do get complaints about our daily withdrawel limit (£300 for standard accounts) being too low. So it's horses for courses.

Yeah 3 cheers for HSBC

I have had a Royal Bank of Scotland account for 4 years.. This is what I get from them:

Solo card

£25 charge if I go one penny overdrawn

Opened an HSBC account 12 months ago and I got:

Switch/Maestro card

Cheque book

Credit card

No charges for going o/d so far (Most I have been o/d is about £10)

I rang RBS up and asked them to upgrade my account to make it one I could actually use and I got the response "The computer says no" and the lady even remarked "Just like that Peter Kay thing!!" :loopy:

HSBC allow you to go overdrawn by up to £50 without charge as do Natwest.
