Does anybody know of a good roofing company that does flat roofs? I've phoned and left messages with a few but nobody ever seems to bother to call back..!!

Be careful how you phrase your request. Tradesmen don't like (and don't need) to take on jobs they suspect may be for (what they perceive as) awkward customers.

Or be really underhand and get a male friend to make the call ;)

Tuf(f) Roof ... they replaced my old worn out felt flat roof with whatever that stuff is that they use, guaranteed for 20 years.

You can walk about on it, put things on it, moss doesn't grow on it and you pressure wash it if it gets mouldy or mucky.

Great stuff.

ps if you dont have insulation, ask them to quote for installing it before they put the new roof on! top tip!

If its not to personel , what did you have re-roofed , looking to get my garage done, and possible extension, i heard the more you want doing the cheaper it can be.. how much did you get quoted.

Good recommend there Ruby. Go with Tuff Roof I have worked on projects where they have done the flat roofing and the work is first rate, Much better than the old felt roof systems and as the name suggests it is very tough.

Dalton Roofing always done a good well priced job for me.

I had it done about 15 years ago and it looks exactly the same today as it did the day they did it. It's on a flat roof house extension about 30ft long x 14 wide. I think it cost about £1500 then, although I can't be sure. For that they took off all the old roof covering, put in new joists, insulation and then boarded it over, and then put on the liquid stuff that dries to a hard finish. You could have a choice of colours, I choose the light grey.

It did cost rather more than a felt and gravel would have done, but I've been very satisfied with it and think I made the right choice.

I had a firm replace my flat kitchen roof earlier this year after a recommendation from a colleague; they did very good work. If you wish to know more pm me and 'll give you the details (I don't have them to hand right now).

try Goff Roofing - they have done a few jobs for forummers - very good by all accounts too. Search on the forum for their details.

So far taken 14 months of letters and phone calls and still not resolved even though the company (Polyroof) who make the product have told them to get it sorted. Would not recommend them - only problem is that they are only company in the area who install this product. 20 year guarantee they give is not worth anything if they wont fix the problems. The product is only as good as the installer. Also are expensive for what you get

I would greatly recommend a company called Fibre-Tec.

Ian has done both my kitchen and garage.

He uses fibreglass and gives a 20 year guarentee.

He did my garage over 10 years ago and a couple of months ago it leaked.

Ian came out and told me the reason for the leak was because my roof had not got emough brackets from the roof to the brickwork it was moving and cracking the fibreglass.

I did the brackets and Ian repaired the roof for the price of a drink/

I'm sorry to hear you're had all these problems, but after a gap of two years I don't suppose you hired them on my recommendation :) When I had trouble with the flashings leaking about four years down the line they came within a couple of days and fixed the problem. And the guarantee is via an insurance bond, not directly with the company, iirc. So my experineces were all good.

Although after all this time, the orginal people have probably all retired! At the time they were the only people offering that type of roof, now there seems to be quite a few, some of whom have posted on this thread.

Martin Brooks, best roofing company in Sheffield. You may pay a bit more but you get a quality job.

Not very impressed with Martin Brooks here. Early this year the previous owners of my property had £7k of work done by them but all they seemed to have done was a few ridge tiles and some flashing and there was water pouring in last week. Maybe that was just bad luck but I wouldn't recommend them on the strength of that.

He came out within a couple of days of my call, on a Saturday because rain was forecast for the Sunday, and his charges were very reasonable. He was courteous, helpful, patient, kind, and even put right some extra things while he was up there and didn't charge more. I'll definitely be getting James Lucas back when I re-roof (ufortunately it hasn't been done in about 100 years so it's well overdue but I'm hoping it won't be too soon)!
