View Full Version : Where can i buy a nice business suit? Unisol 08-03-2005, 10:28 Either Meadowhell or city centre. Thought of Cecil Gee, Next etc so far. Any recommendations? Ta. You have a large frame or a small frame? Unisol 08-03-2005, 10:33 Maybe £300/£400? I've done weights for years and am quite broad. In more of an athletic way than like a bodybuilder. You could get a nice DKNY or Paul Smith suit for that price. I have one and it's really good quality. You would have to travel to Manchester however and get it at the DKNY store on King Street or Paul Smith at Selfridges / Harvey Nichs. I've also got two Armani Collezioni suits and although they're a bit more expensive they are beautifully tailored. Just get the best you can afford, there's nothing worse in business than a cheap suit! Unisol 08-03-2005, 10:44 Thanks. Don't really have time to go to Manchester as i need one quite urgently! What about Ecclesall Rd? JonJParr 08-03-2005, 10:48 Originally posted by Unisol Thanks. Don't really have time to go to Manchester as i need one quite urgently! What about Ecclesall Rd? There's a good shop that sells Mulberry clothes on Ecclesall Rd. Not sure what it's called though - I believe it's near the Aga shop. It's only an hour to Manchester - and remember you'll want to keep the suit a long time..... It's not getting over to Manchester, it's just if alterations need to be made resulting in a return trip. 1Man&hisBMW 08-03-2005, 11:05 I would recommend the Hugo Boss shop in Meadowhall if you are after a suit. laalaa 08-03-2005, 11:25 I'm pretty sure Limeys in the city centre (Chapel Walk) sells designer suits. Unisol 08-03-2005, 11:34 Thanks, i'll go check those out. GHS1961 08-03-2005, 11:56 Appreciate that you are in a hurry so this option isn't open to you this time but consider getting a suit made for you next time. Try Barney Goodman on Ecclesall Road, proper tailors who will make something that fits your broad frame, uses wonderful materials and will last a very long time. The cost ? - you can get a quality piece of cloth for £400. A bargain in my opinion for something hand made and unique to you. No connection with BG just been a very happy customer for the last ten years. nick2 08-03-2005, 11:59 Originally posted by JonJParr You could get a nice DKNY or Paul Smith suit for that price. Just get the best you can afford, there's nothing worse in business than a cheap suit! You can get Paul Smith suits in House Of Fraser in Meadowhall, and I agree they are very well made suits. There is also the Hugo Boss shop next to HOF, they do a nice suit, but a bit "older" in style. Unisol 08-03-2005, 12:01 Thanks, i'll consider that next time. technophobe 08-03-2005, 14:33 Unisol: Have you heard of a place called Berwins in Doncaster, its an old chapel near to the park n ride at Adwick. You can pick up a couple of suits there for under £100. They have all next suits and Paul Smith (the Paul Smith ones are normally quite small). But suits are really cheap for both sex's. The next ones are normally washable so are really good value for money. Good luck. Strix 08-03-2005, 14:39 Originally posted by Unisol Yeah i'm always willing to spend money for quality. It's not getting over to Manchester, it's just if alterations need to be made resulting in a return trip. Perhaps Cole Brothers? I believe they do alterations to suits you buy. I don't think next do, but I could be wrong... Edit: here's all the menswear shops at meadowhell (http://www.meadowhall.co.uk/website/StoreList.aspx?ParentSectionId=105a1b72-8948-4120-b827-737eef2e0078&CurrentSectionId=e6359512-2afd-47e2-bf6e-8c1d46c99640&ContentInstanceID=) Edit: drat. link is iffy. Click link then 'list by category' then 'menswear' horseface 08-03-2005, 21:20 Unless you are very lucky, off the peg suits are not likely to fit properly. Sleeves too long / too short legs too long/ too short etc etc. So yes, invest in a couple of bespoke tailored jobs, as long as you make sure the style is not to radical, they will me usable for years. So if it is really really urgent, (and I hate to say this, and I'll wash my tongue afterwards), Marks and Spencers is worth looking at - ' cos they have many leg lengths and 3 sleeve lengths. I once walked into their Baker Street shop in jeans and walked out black-tie-ready for a minor royal's reception - and I am truely a very very odd size and shape. Alternatively if you have just a bit more time, you will probably need a good alterations shop, ('cos people like John Lewis/Cole Bros contract it out , and it can take ages). There is a little one iI found in Swallownest does an OK job at a decent price and with a 48 hour turn round, I've never had a jacket altered their, but maybe 6 pairs of pants/jeans and always OK. The one in town near the firestation was better (where has it moved to?) - but took 3 weeks. Oh and yes, if you go out of town (and it is probably neccessary), Manchester is far better for mens clothes than Leeds. ADC_28 08-03-2005, 23:28 I've always got my suits tailored for me from by Barney Goodman's on Eccleshall Road. They should be able to fit you up with a two peice suit for around £300-£400. I've 2 of their suits and the quality is outstanding. Also if, like me, you're of something of a unique shape which means off-the-peg suits tend not to fit properly, I'd highly recommend getting one made for you. As an addendum, a friend of mine reads Marketing at LSE and he was regailing me the story of a representative from Burton menswear (who also own Suits You) who said explicitly that the biggest market sector of buyer for Suits You suits where people due in court. "I'd like something from your Not Guilty range, please..." Unisol 09-03-2005, 06:49 Thanks again people. Think i'm going to have a look around Meadowhell on Friday night and if i can't find anything suitable (pardon the pun) i've got all weekend to maybe go to Manchester? Cheers. "I'd like something from your Not Guilty range, please..." [/B] LOL. I have to say, that is definately not the reason in this case. I bsiacally run our family business, but rarely get out to meet people as i'm usually office bound. But, i have a meeting with some important people next week and want to create a good impression. As well as this, i would like to start getting out more and meet people in person rather than just over the phone. JonJParr 09-03-2005, 08:05 Originally posted by Unisol LOL. Debenhams? Limey's? JonJParr 09-03-2005, 10:27 Originally posted by Unisol Anywhere you can think of in Sheffield sell Paul Smith? Debenhams? Limey's? Not Debenhams but Limeys probably do. Unisol 12-03-2005, 08:28 Thanks for your help everyone, i managed to get a very nice Boss suit from meadowhall. Tried a few places in Meadowhall but most looked 'wrong' on my stocky frame. Tried a few Boss ones and fell on one which was perfect. Broad in the shoulders, quite fitted at the sides, trousers are spot on perfect too. My brother came with me and he bought one too. Cheers. I need to get a suit for meeting some important clients as well. I'm like you with broad shoulders so what shop did you buy this from in Meadowhell? Thanks in advance! Really, really good fit. Very pleased. Here's a tip if you're broad like me. Ask for a shorter jacket as something long will make your whole torso seem as wide as your shoulders. Try and find something a little more fitted too for the same reason. Good luck. nick2 17-03-2005, 10:51 Originally posted by Unisol Anywhere you can think of in Sheffield sell Paul Smith? Debenhams?
