Canadablade asking for immunity from reply :hihi:
After all of his previous posts on here!
You’ve got to hand it to him, for the cheek!
I didn’t notice the person working with Mel on his book, get much immunity from crass reply from certain quarters recently.
Shoreham boot boys!
Worked in a factory for twenty hours at a time, did they?
Giving people a good leathering , all part of the social history and fabric of this country ? :hihi::hihi:

A little more information for you to look at ;)
A little more information for you to look at
Had the boot boy references been appropriate to the John Street Boot boys ( i.e the apprentices that once cleaned the boots of United players of the sixties and seventies whom I respected, such as Graham and Joe Shaw and Tony Currie), I would not have replied to this thread, (and might even have been interested in reading it.) But, it is not.
Whilst accepting there my indeed be some humour and matters of local interest in it, you know as well as the rest of us, the author of this book, is still clearly proud of his violent past (he had the opportunity to renounce it here, had he wished), and like so many others cowards of the same ilk, is now not only trying to legitimise his actions, but to glorify and now make money out of them.
As such, are the sports sections of book stores, or this forum places for such credence to be gained?
I don’t think so!
A further point. What percentage of the market the book is aimed
at is literate enough to be able to read it, is another question!

Your priceless fella.
You do your club and fellow blue fans proud.:hihi::hihi:
NERVY-OWL 10-03-2008, 20:16 i know very little about this person, so not going to say too much but i dont see why people would want to go out and buy a book about hooligans. i cant stand people that go to matches looking for a fight and dont think much of people joining the bbc and whatever the owls one is.

then its not for you sunshine is it.
some of the biggest selling books and films are about gangsters and real crimes. does'nt make us all reggie kray does it.
the book is about growing up in his part of sheffield in the 50's and 60's school days, music, recreational drugs, and going to football with yer mates and the start of the hooligan scene. its had some very good reviews take it or leave it your choice.
NERVY-OWL 10-03-2008, 22:26 fair enough, suppose some people might enjoy it.
fair enough, suppose some people might enjoy it.
I'd go as far as to say, that some will get as much satisfaction and pleasure from it (and in the same way), that Jazzy gets from the "Green-Un".

I thought that was the one who drove the MAn City team bus, and distributed all the baloons on the pitch, that helped you get the winner.
Oh, so long ago now, and what might have been, eh!
If... only....
I think the culprit might be still lurking nearer to home.
How long was it after your Uncle's funeral, that you went back to Canada, CB?
canadablade 12-03-2008, 20:08 How long was it after your Uncle's funeral, that you went back to Canada, CB?
Well to make a long story short I never did make the actual funeral Geo
Found out Saturday morning he died, Booked a flight for Tuesday night and arrived in Uk wednesday morning, cousin picked me up and took me to North Wales for the night then, drove to Sheffield Thursday.Thought the funeral would be friday, Blades v owls Saturday and flight home Sunday.
Turns out the coroner messed a few things up and then needed 2 doctors signatures etc so I got to see him was in the B&C Funeral home on Suffolk Road a couple of times, paid extra for my mum ( his sister) to stay a week extra. The funeral was on the Friday after I got back.
HMMMMM Maybe shes the culprit :o

Coroner's bureaucracy, eh!
Experienced some of that myself!
What a great tribute in the Star.
Hopefully you can gain some consolation from that (and the way events unfolded) , as very brief recompense of not being able to be there.
I honestlly feel for you on that one.
Clearly, my investigation to find the dressing room penny-pincher, was "barking up the wrong tree", when I looked in your direction!
I will follow another lead, and start looking elsewhere. I will keep you informed.

Actually my cousin Angela set it all up, How brilliant was that though that TC came out of the Lane and did that :love:
He actually named his son Anthony after TC ;)
It's reassuring and good to know there are still a load of ex. pros out there , who are willing to do that sort of thing.
I wonder how many of those in the game today, would be prepared to such a thing in thrity years time!
I remember Patrick Viera telling a kid of about nine, to "go forth and multiply", when he (an Arsenal fan at that) asked him for his autograph, the last time the Arses came to Hillsborough!
My opinion of the game nose dived that day (and no it wasn't the same day Alcock hit the deck).

Think you might enjoy this video Geo.
Football will never be the same again, I am so glad i got to see some football in the 70's..Characters were everywhere in the game and I could and do spend hours on you tube.
Tony Currie was a great player and my hero ;)
Look at the video from 4.36 and see TC in action

Still not answered if you have a Sierra or not?
No Sierra - Hotel - Alpha -Romeo - Papa Blade.
Only Blunt Charlie - Uniform - November ....................
Just forget it.
Stockers 07-04-2008, 11:06 I bought this book for my old man as he was a Shoreham Boot Boy back in the 60's and 70's and he has picked out a discrepancy in the book.
Ronnie Sharpe makes reference to one of his mates throwing a snooker ball at the Man City goalkeeper and it hitting him on the head, my old man reckons he knows Ronnie and his mind might be playing games as my Dad swears blind it was him who threw the snooker ball at the Man City keeper. He reckons he nicked the ball from the Sportsman!!
I..
throwing a snooker ball at the Man City goalkeeper and it hitting him on the head, .......
And CB trys to tells us all they're such nice boys.
As well as dropping the green & blue with the same shot, he didn't go in-off as well did he?
Double foul!
No wonder Man City keepers have nightmares against you.
Balloons this season.
Snooker balls then.
No grenades yet?
Whatever next!
freyasdad 07-04-2008, 13:43 No the grenades are for the blue mob we are playing tomorrow.
Still not answered the Sierra thing yet or are you claiming the 5 amendment?
I've answered you at least 3 times.
matt1889 09-04-2008, 14:43 Just to return to the topic, I went down to Fanny's to the book Signing and purchased this book, and I don't consider myself to be a reader in all fairness, in fact the only thing that crosses my eyes tends to be the newspaper, however being a blade and all that I thought why not and grabbed a copy of it, and ok a lot of you don't agree with the whole Hooligan thing but to be fair I really enjoyed this book! The thing is, being only in my 20's the book gives me a real insight into what things used to be like, along with the discriptive violence comes a perfect capture of the era if you know what I mean??? O.K you might argue that it's an auto-biography of an hooligan, but theres a lot more to it believe me, Ronnie goes into great detail as he tells the story of his life, and allthough I wasn't aroud back then I've learnt a great deal about what went on back in those days! It sort of ties up the stories that our old man tells me about back when he was a young un! Brilliant book, Highly Recommended!!!!!
Keep up the Good Work Ronnie, Can't wait for your second installment!!!!

Cheers for that mate, i'll double check with my old man who it was against, i thought he said Man City but he named the keeper.
My old man reckons he knows Ronnie though from the old days.
I e-mailed Ronnie a few weeks ago about where i could buy the book. If you're reading i got one from HMV in town and it made a great birthday present for my old man re living the old days.

I'm warming to him a bit :)
Stockers 22-05-2008, 15:35 I've just finished reading 'Sharpe as a Blade' and would like to say a huge congratulations to Ronnie Sharpe.
What a cracking book this is, nothing like i was expecting (a promotion of football hooliganism e.g. we ran them, they ran us etc etc), its a very insightful read giving me as a 31yr old an insight into life in the 50's and 60's.
I would reckoned it very highly to those who haven't read it yet, well done Ronnie, i'm already looking forward to the next installment.
yorkie mick 27-12-2008, 01:22 could some one please tell me how i can buy the book sharp as a blade either via the internet or if there is a shop that sells it in sheffield thanks
