In a recent interview in Good Housekeeping magazine, Wombles creator Mike Batt admitted that he originally planned for the Wombles to be Ninja vigilante fighters against the dregs of society such as thieves, murderers and traffic wardens. Unfortunately his idea was toned down as unsuitable for kids, thus the Wombles were portrayed instead as peace-loving litter-collecting creatures.

Suppoing Batt’s original ideas had come to fruition, I suspect the Wombles would have been a fearsome fighting team; with this in mind, which of them do you think you’d be able to have in a fight?

was it toned down because of kids or because wombles dont look very menacing?

Wombles are one of the few things than genuinely terrify me, I just soiled myself at the thought of actually having to fight one of them.

That's an optical illusion; they used camera trickery so as not to frighten small children. In reality a free range Womble can grow as high as 7 feet tall!

I'd distract them by chucking rubbish in front of them before going on the attack. They wont know what's hit em!!!
