View Full Version : Logic Audio Software
popestar 07-03-2005, 10:23 Hi does anyone know what the last release of Logic audio was for PC. Apple bought emagic who make Logic a couple of years ago and i believe that from Logic 5 it is only Mac compatible. Can anyone clarify this so i can start hunting on ebay for a version. Any info on this appreciated i guess i am hoping to hear you can get 4.7 or something. Also any info on other good (proffesional) sequencer packages for pc would be appredciated.
Hi.check this...Tracktion.version 1 was free for a while...not sure if it still is. I am a long term user of cubase and vst and am well impressed by this nifty program... You can use all your vst plug ins and instruments...setup ideal for working over the net with other uses etc...and great tech support...

sorry
popestar 09-03-2005, 12:37 Cheers Tron looks quite good. Out of interest is Cubase available on PC, i am used to using Logic on macs but in my friends studio but wanted some top end kit to do work at home on my pc. I had heard that cubase had some pretty bad latency problems but that was on earlier versions (cannot remember when but before cubase 5 i think). Which version of Cubase do you have ? would you reccommend it?
Hi,
Just to confirm that Logic Platinum for the P.C stopped at version 5.5.0.
I got the very last copy from Carillion about a year and a half ago.
Wanted to stay P.C so I could also use Wavelab.
It might be worth looking on ebay as it's still quite up to date as a program (I don't miss anything using it, from recording bands to dance music).
Although I must admit I hav'nt looked in depth at the modern programs.
I've been told that Cubase SX is pretty good.
Hope that helps
popestar 09-03-2005, 14:26 cheers modesty that sounds good as i was thinking if i could get a version since 4.7 it would be cool. Logic 5 still quality program the new versions do not really have any new kit it's just easier to draw in automation etc. will be searching ebay for a copy now thanks. Thank you to every one else for replying but i think i will stick to logic as its what i have used all my life although i was very interested traktion.
I use vst 5.1...latency is slight with my m.audio card...seriously think Tracktion has a lot going for it....I have a good friend who is beta testing version 2 at the moment...Look forward to trying it out...
popestar 10-03-2005, 09:30 cheers tron i have a m audio card too its a delta if latency is slight (i had heard it had improved) i will give it a go and see if any of the students at the studio heve traktion so i could try it too.
I tried Tracktor, on Tron's advice and was suitably impressed; a very simple interface but once you get under the hood of it it seems very adaptable (unlike cubase!)
Very similar to Tracktion is Ableton Live, http://www.ableton.com
I believe there's a downloadable demo on the site. It's a very good proggy, does all the multitrack recording bit, but there's another mode if you're into using loops - basically drag a loop into a slot and it gets timestretched to the master tempo. Map all your clips to midi notes, and away you go, ho, ho. I swear by it!
I've gone all retro at the moment tho, atari st and akai sampler, how low can you go!?
Dj_Shadowman 10-03-2005, 16:01 How about logic 5.5 platinum?
seen as my question is slightly on-topic and the people replying seem to know a fair bit about the subject...
I'm a guitarist and have been looking for a good piece of software where I can whip up some drum beats as a bottom line for me to record on top off, so I can easily whip off some little demo's for myself... nothing for like selling studio work otherwise I'd try and get use of a real drummer and drum kit...
anyways, whats the best software for this? mainly ease of use I'm looking at... I dont want to spend 6hrs trying to get a little drum sequence set-up :P
depends what style you're doin xafffiier.
I can recomend again ableton, if you're using drum loops, or even just record someone bashing some kit, it either works it out for you, if you have just a few bars trimmed, or you can define the beats yourself visually.
You can choose sections of these to loop in sync, trigger different looped sections in time or even get it to play clips not totally randomly, but sound like quite natural variations on a common beat-if you get to grips with the time mapping thing!
Oh goodness me! my sentences are getting a bit long...
You can use it how you want really, tiz a gaping chasem of electrobeattastick entanglements.. it's fab..
bertie749 04-09-2005, 15:54 Does anyone have a copy of the Ableton Live manual which I can purchase off them as I lost mine in my house move and trying to remember how to mix uploaded tunes together (beat match) is doin my head in
There's a few useful tutorials on the ableton website:

HAve a look for the Warp markers tutorial..
