The guy that did "Spirited away" I have fallen in love with his work. He has done other films too - I'm working my way round to watch them. There is "Castle of Cagilistro", "Castle in the Sky" and "Kiki's delivery service" and "Porco Rosso" (which I haven't seen yet) and there is a whole bunch of them that I'm not too familiar with also.

His new one, I hope is going to be shown at The showroom on Paternoster Row, It's called "Howl's moving castle"

Yeah I got the whole ghibli collection on VCD when I was in singapore last year. Amazing stuff.

Watching "Grave Of The Fireflies" tonight actually.

Keeping on the sheffield thread - there is an anime society at Sheffield Uni. Think they show a film every Tuesday night for £1.50

Miyazaki is one of my passions in life, the greatest living animator in the world today. I have striven to see all that I can of his work after I was treated to Castle in the Sky at the age of seven.

Mononoke, Spirited Away, Kiki, Castle and Cagliostro are all treasured parts of my anime collection, but I have yet to track down a western copy of Porco Rosso.

Have you discovered the eco-themed "Nausicaa of the Valley of the Winds" and the enchanting "My Neighbour Totorro"? Neither has been released over here as of yet...but if you find them, please let me know!

I love his stuff and own Monroke, Castle in the Sky, Kiki, My Neihbour Tortoro, Pom Poko, Spirited Away, Graveyard of Fireflies.

Howl's will be on at the Showroom

if you don't want an English Dub :gag: you can get good versions of a lot of his films from Korea.

Naussicaa and Porco Rosso (and theCat Returns) were all release in the US on R1 last month.

You are so lucky - we had nothing like that kind of introduction to anime when I was younger but I soon rectified that with our kids - They love Kiki - the youngest even goes round on a swiffer pretending to be the witch ;)

I'm always on the look out for release dates for R2 DVD but they don't seem to think that there is a market for it - and I am sure if you ask anyone who loves it they will be the first ones to say "Get it here quickly" ;). I really want to see Nausicaa - well all of them really :)

(For everyone)
If you all don't know screenselect have got a large selection of anime, and they are always willing to add new titles too, so you can rent it, then if you really like it you can buy it. If it's Mizyaki, just buy it ;)

Sorry I got it slightly wrong....

The Sheffield Anime society meets every THURSDAY at the Auditorium in the Shef University Union Building at 7pm. It costs 2.50 and 1 pound yearly membership (Not sure about if non-students are allowed)..

Email james.brown@sheffield.ac.uk for more info.

They aren't showing Grave Of The Fireflies though, I'm just watching that at home (from Screenselect!)

I'd advise getting the tissues out and steeling yourself, Grave of the Fireflies is a wondeful but very tradgic tale...I bought the DVD and after on viewing my partner will not watch it again.

Love Miyazaki.

I fell in love with My Neighbour Totoro years ago and have thought everyone one I have seen since then has been great.

I wasn't too happy with Nausicaa but the manga was a lot better than the film anyway. The ending had a few too many religious undertones to it for my liking.
Mononoke was a bit too "nature good/technology bad" but still a jaw dropping visual experience.

My absolute favourite is Porco Rosso though. I love the character and the setting, and the feel of the movie overall makes me happy (but not in the way Totoro makes me happy)

Has anyone seen On Your Mark? It's a video for a Chage and Aska song that Miyazaki did, and I got it as a bonus on my copy of Ocean Waves. It's only six minutes long and is better than most full length sci-fi films.

I'm still quite new to the anime thing and manga hasn't really grabbed me at all, but I will look out for it :)

I recently got My neighbour Totoro, Pom Poko and My Neighbours the Yamadas (in fact My neighbours the Yamadads was today :D) its all wonderful stuff :D - the kids absolutely love My neighbour Totoro, our youngest lad was in absolute stiches when he Totoro said his name and wants to ride the cat bus :D :D :D

Totoro may well be one of the greatest movies ever made. It's perfect.

It doesn't need bad guys or villians, kids and adults can love and appreciate it and the scene where they ride the Catbus at the end makes me smile every time.
I love the way his sign changes to 'Mei' when they go and look for her, and then 'hospital' when they visit their mum.

And On Your Mark is another one that's perfect too. Small, but perfectly formed.

God, I love Miyazaki. I must go and watch them again. But which one? They're all good, although I do prefer his earlier work to his later stuff. Mononoke was good, but nowhere near as good as, say, Laputa, IMO.

Maybe I should watch Kiki'e Delivery Service again.

Big fan here too. I think the first time I watched a cartoon movie, it was My Neighbour Totoro in Cantonese. The dubbing was excellent, and it had some kind of song they intro'd into it too. Sadly, I think now that Gibli studio did try to standardise all their merchandising that, such dubs are lost forever.

I have the DVD boxset. I've seen quite a few Miyazaki DVDs now on offer in Fopps. Graves of the Firefly is the saddest movie I've seen for an anime movie. I had it on one time I recall when my gran was over, and she sobbed her poor eyes out ! >.< For a cartoon that has such effects on adults, it's pretty moving stuff.

I still prefer his old movies than his new ones. I don't get Spirited Away, or Howl's Moving Castle.
