OK, so you've had a really s***ty day at work and just want to scream . . . you get into your car and switch the tape on, it's one of your favourite ever songs so you put it up and begin to sing along. At first in a quiet angry tone, then as you go along you begin to sing a tad louder and by the last stretch you're belting it out!! and you don't care who's watching.

Finally you get home, park up and quietly get out, feeling relieved and de-stressed. It's all good. :P

Come on, own up - who shouts their heads off to songs in their cars!:hihi:

Ashamed to say I do most days (regardless of if happy / sad / indifferent)

Tends to be either "James" or Peter Gabriel numbers .. don't ask! :-/

I sing along to everything anyway. Maybe I'm sad or maybe I just don't care. I love it.
The best one is when you pull up at lights and find someone in the car next to you singing the same thing. Embarrasing for a second but hilarious too.
Thumbs up for singing in the car!

I must admit I'm a car singer too! I have been known to dance too when the mood takes me! Obviously only when in traffic, and with the handbrake on! :hihi:

Not so much dance on my part but play air drums and guitar when waiting in traffic or at lights.. Was witnessed by two coppers other day who pointed, laughed and smiled

Sing, dance, wave my arms around, I think I've done them all in the past. The most worrying thing was when i used to have a tape 'driving rock' and would play it extremely loudly. Not only did this annoy all the people at bus stops but unconsciously my foot would depress the accelerator further and further especially when I was doing a lot of motorway cruising.

As sad as it may sound, you can't beat a bit of Meatloaf for a full on, in the car rock fest.

I have to admit to once pushing it a tad over 65mph on the M1...
LIKE A BAT OUT OF HELL!!!!!! :headbang:

My steering wheel is a snare drum and hi-hat; the clutch is the hi-hat pedal and the accelarator bass drum pedal.

The song I'm drumming along to happens to be The Primitives' Crash which happens to be extremely apt.

Please DO NOT be the motorist infront of me!!

Yep, I sing in the car too. Most of the time at a normal volume, but occasionally very loud! If someone sees me and thinks I look amusing, what the heck! :D.

It's always less embarassing for me when spotted if I have my shades on!

The only track by Meatloaf to sing along to in the car just has to be 'Paradise by the Dashboard Light'.
I'm right handed so tend to tap with my right foot and so it is the driver directly behind me who I have sympathy for my car speed fluctuating rapidly as I tap away.
One track that always got my speed accelerating was 'Freebird' and on one ocasion as I was coming off the motorway at Renishaw i really had to tell myself off and get a grip.

I used to drive a ford galaxy people carrier in the 1990s, which was often full floor to ceiling with my huge PA speakers, when on the way to a gig. After picking up my mate, who I had to pay to help due to the weight and size of the speakers, we used to find it hilarious to drive slowly past bus stops where people were waiting while playing, at full volume,

ELO & Olivia Newton~John's Xanadu..

We used to get some real funny looks...

These days favourite driving music is,
Rapture by Blondie, which I sing along to, but not if anyone can hear me It's just so annoying..

Avoid eye contact, good idea!

I find there's something very therapeutic about singing in the car...

It's safer than in the house, because there's no danger the neighbours can overhear!

These lighter evenings are definitely a problem for the traffic singers... in the dead of winter no-one can see you, so you can give it full 80's power ballad posturing and grimacing!

As famously sung by the late Johnny Cash:

"C`mon get rhythm when you get the blues"

I have just started to play the saxophone. It's very difficult to play it while driving so I've decided not to do this and leave it at home.
Oil painting is much more easy; in fact it's almost as easy at toe nail cutting.

I sometimes do 'sing' and scare other road users or pedestrians!

I think there are 3 types of car singers:

1. The piano players - hands on the wheel at 2pm & 10pm position, gently tapping away on the top of the wheel.

2. The trance-hand freak - steering the car with the right hand whilst the left hand is doing all sorts of contortions, prods, jabs and pointing into the windscreen.

3. The headbanger - speaks for itself really. :headbang:

I do it not only in my car, but while I'm out and about walking the dog. Have to be careful nobody's around though.

Well not headbanging, but singing. Sometimes I get carried away and sing quite loud. There have been embarrasing moments

What can I say? It's a must!

I sing my head off - whenever and wherever I can in my car. Bit embarassing when I have to stop for traffic lights though cos I have a 'soft top' (posh git) and everyone looks at me funny when I sit there wailing !!!

Great fun. Don't people pull some strange faces?

There ought to be some serious research done on the effects of music on driving behaviour. I have a feeling that we tend to drive faster and perhaps even a little more recklessly if listening to raucous rock music - or perhaps Ride of the Valkeries or something similar. Conversely, some classical music might have a calming, soothing effect which may be reflected in our driving behaviour.

I know if you do the Institute of Advanced Motorists training course one of the first things they tell you to do is to swtich off your stereo and concentrate on your driving. I tend to swtich mine off when approaching anything potentially hazardous, such as a large roundabout or when entering a motorway.

Yes....if driving is going to be difficult i do switch off my radio...but when im on the motorway i tend to crank up the volume...especially if it is a good song!!

When in the car, dad regularly has something unsingable - and besides, our car radio is pants (Blaupunkt).

When I'm up here though - we regularly have music loud - look out for a maroon coloured Volvo with two guys in singing Radiohead's "High & Dry"!
