Just thought I'd start this as a new thread to avoid confusion!

Anyone interested in a the Wentworth Photo Meet No. 2 on March 8th, please post your interest.
We will be meeting at 11am at the tea rooms in Wentworth garden Centre.
Some of us went last weekend & enjoyed it, & we're repeating it for those of you who could not make it last week. We even ended up in a lovely pub for a bevvy & a bite. So, come on, make it worth my while getting out of bed for!

Yep, you can count me in Hemlock but don't wait for me it'll be at least 12.00 before I get there.

I'd be interested in coming, never been on a photo meet before, so could you give me a bit of info and also what to expect at Wentworth?

Thanks

Hi NeoGen, photo meets are pretty relaxed affairs, we meet up then wander about taking photos either together or on your own, everyone is friendly and if we can help each other out with how best to take a certain photo we do. Some people have SLR's some have compacts its all the same to us. we have a bite to eat and a drink whilst having a chat, best thing is just turn up on Saturday, if you need a lift I'm sure it can be arranged.

Hi NeoGen! I think hockeybear has just about covered everything. At Wentworth there is a garden centre in the grounds of the kitchen garden in the Wentworth Woodhouse Estate. It is an interesting garden with old statues, summerhouse etc. There are also some deer, & animals. Then there is Wentworth Woodhouse itself & of course in the village is a lovely old pub with food!! Oh, I nearly forgot - lots & lots of interesting walls!!:D

Neogen & Waldershelf - please come along & join us on Saturday - we're a friendly bunch!
As I said earlier, we will meet at 11am at the tea rooms in the garden centre.
We will wander around the grounds, taking photos as the uge takes us. Once everyone has had enough, we'll wander off to to Wentworth Park & take in Wentworth Woodhouse. If anyone wants, we can go round the village & end up in the pub! Very informal, & everyone is very helpful with advice, if needed. All skill levels are welcome - I'm near the bottom of the skill pile - thought I would feel daunted by other professional & semi-professional photographers, but that's not the case at all (they just laugh at my obsession with walls :hihi:)
Dafoot - yes you can bring your tripod - the grounds are separate from the garden centre, so there's no staff there really - plenty of room. & you'll be glad to know I got to photo about 2 miles of wall last Saturday - so not much left to photograph this week!!!:hihi:

Oooh this is weird. Today I got an email to say that 2 pics of mine have been used in a book on Bizarre Buildings - namely this one (http://www.fotolibra.com/gallery/215609/needles-eye-wentworth-woodhouse-england/) and this one (http://www.fotolibra.com/gallery/215608/needles-eye-wentworth-woodhouse-england/) - the commission isn't huge but hey ho :P

The walls on the Needle's eye are fab - full of musket holes from a firing squad, and inside the walls are weathered with a lovely texture :P

Hmm - what shiny new toy would need a tripod? If it's a long lens take it. There were some deer in the park last weekend and with a really long lens you might get some nice portraits. And there would be no trouble with a tripod - other than having to carry it about that is.

Yes they are great shots Grissom mine looked rather lopsided - is this close (http://picasaweb.google.com/neotericwalks/Wentworth3June2007/photo#5071874019973730290) enough for you Hemlock?

OK I own up I'm another wall fan - Sandstone is favourite, although a good topping of Sheffield crozzle (http://picasaweb.google.com/neotericwalks/RiverSheaf14July2007/photo#5087045995453828274) sets the blood racing, especial when you're this (http://picasaweb.google.com/neotericwalks/RiverSheaf14July2007/photo#5087046042698468546) close:hihi:

Not sure if I can make it Saturday but will know by tomorrow evening.

New toy = new macro lens.

Would be nice to play with some flowers and invertebrates. Had a go at one of my spiders last night but she wasn't in the mood for modelling for me!

This is the puppy...

Hi DaFoot,
It is nice of you to offer a lift, thanks. We both are of small size, so no worry about squeezing in :hihi: We live near Bramall lane, where is the best place to meet you? We don't mind meeting you at Hillsborough or some where in the city (if you're passing this way towards Wentworth). Looking forward to meet you all!

I'm not sure if I'll go that way or not... I'll figure out how to get to Wentworth and get back to you...

Just checked with Google maps, looks like Wentworth is North so if you can it would be useful if you could make your way over to Hillsborough and go from there?

Hi Grissom

I too prefer the second shot, very nice.

I am intrigued too by fotolibra - is it a traditional stock library, a microstock library or something else?

I send images to some libraries myself in the hope of sales (its always fun when one does) but am actively looking for new places to try.

Thanks for any info

debbie

Fotolibra is a Rights Managed library. The boopk was published in September and I've only just now got the payment for the photos. The original call for photos for the book was many months before that.

Most of my photos are on istockphoto on Royalty Free basis (at the higher end of being "microstock") - follow the link in my signature - hoping one day to reach the magical 10,000 sales and then be able to submit images to Getty (who own istock) :)

Had a wonderful day, & it was lovely to meet Meehailam, Mrs Meehailam & NeoGen for the first time! Hope you'll come again!
Roll call today was DaFoot, Hockey Bear, Hemlock & Mr Hemlock & friend, Meehailam, Mrs Meehailam & NeoGen - 8 in total.
We wandered round the gardens at Wentworth Garden centre, taking photos of each other taking photos & DaFoot getting close & personal to a couple of frogs. We also went into a smelly farm & took pics of plenty of cows & pigs (& tyres!).
Once we had been to see Wentworth Woodhouse, we were getting a little cold, so we took refuge in the local & had a drink & some of us had a bite to eat. I think everyone seemed to enjoy the day & I'll be posting photos once I've sorted them out.
Look forward to seeing everyone elses!

Nice pictures Hemlock!
Sorry guys, I won't be uploading any sooner. Just got back home. We both 'continued' with our exploration of Sheffield since we bought a day pass for the day, so we took ride up to Crystal Peaks and down again with some stops in between :hihi:

And now I am busy looking over the general election result of my country as the fellow citizens back home voted today. Seem like the government has lost several states and not going to get the two third majority...which to me is a good news. The wind of change has come and the people have spoken.

I will upload as soon as I can. Thanks for organising the walk and nice to meet you all.

Cheers

I send images to Alamy and find a RM sale always takes far longer for payment to come through. Is Fotolibra exclusive?

I have some images on istock also - microstock is something i started to experiment with about six months back, sending images also to bigstock and shutterstock. You don't have to wait till you've had 10,000 sales till trying Getty - I tried last year and they accepted my first submission, so I have about 20 images with them now. Sadly, they charge 50 dollars per image you send up (first 10 1/2 price), and so far I haven't had any sales :(
They have just sold themselves in the last few weeks I think, so I am waiting to see what happens to them and concentrating on 4corners for exclusive images and alamy and photoshelter for non-exclusives.

With all of the above you can search me as septemberlegs, except 4corners who insist on no pseudonyms and so it has to be deborah waters!

And now, i have just moved to Sheffield and am about to have a baby so I face the challenge of learning how to keep it up with a newborn in tow, help!

Don't think FL is exclusive, but havent had a paid account with them in ages, so best to look over the T&C's.

When you get the 10,000 sales and upload to Getty they dont charge you for the privilege :)

Will have to look at your pics sometime. Hey don't think of the newborn as a challenge - could be a source of good photos :P

The suggestion of darkening the snowdrop background is one I'll have to look into, though spending my working days in front of computers I'm often less than keen once I'm home!
