Does anyone know of a Sheffield coach or minibus company which does day trips to alton towers? Im in desperate need to find a company who can take about 4 of us to Alton Towers sometime in the easter holiday.

Why not go by train from Sheffield. Central Trains and Midland Mainline both have day trips to Alton Towers for an inclusive travel and entry tickets package.

If I were you though I'd choose Midland Mainline as Centrals services are a bit unreliable at the weekends.

MM only do them from Leicester or London.

The Central trains one I can recommend, I did it on a weekend and they were fine.

If it is only Central that do it now from Sheffield I would only advise doing it on a weekday for the time being.

I can assure you that Centrals services at the weekends are a bit of a mess at the moment due to weekend engineering work which is ongoing for at least a few more weeks.

And before someone recomends calling the Nation Rail Enquiries for info... trust me they are very frequently wrong, especially with service alterations.

Yeah, I saw Virgin, Midland Mainline & central trains all do it on Alton Towers website, central trains is the only one thats goes from Sheffield as you said, but I didn't fancy catching the train, then a bus link to Alton Towers. Has anyone done this trip before? was it any hassle transfuring?

As I say, Ive done it before on Central Trains.

What I did was go from Sheffield to Nottingham and then bought the Ticket from Nottingham Station (as its much cheaper!)

It went:

Nottingham > Derby > Uttoxeter *CHANGE* > Bus directly to Alton Towers.

The bus coming back leaves at park closing and then twice again every 30mins after park closing for another hour or two (incase you are still in queues)

Train arrived on time both there and back, as did the bus.

Have you thought of booking a minibus? I know someone who might be able to help, and his fees were really reasonable!

I did think of Minibus, but since there are only 4 of us, it will not be worth paying a lot.
