Hello! I'm looking for the family of my great-grandfather, Samuel Dungworth Peacock who came to Ontario, Canada in 1885.

He had two brothers, Harry and John Thomas who were born circa 1868 and after marrying Margaret Ann SOUTH and Sarah Ann LEE (respectively), they lived in the Brightside Bierlow/ Pitsmoor area. Petre St., Jamaica St., Edgar St. and Grimesthorpe Rd. are all addresses I have for them from letters written between 1890s-1920s.

Harry had three boys: Harry, Frank and Sam.

John T. Peacock's son, William (b.1898 d.1972) had a daughter, Marian Thelma who married a Walter ROBINSON. They had two children, Susan and John. Susan married a Chris EVANS... and that's the most recent information I have!

If anyone has any information on these people, please let me know!

Thank you,
Grace

Hello Grace,

I have been doing a lot of research on my gt-gt-grandfather Thomas Peacock who married Eliza Dungworth on 26 March 1823. Just a week ago I made a breakthrough and with the help of other distant relatives on the Genes Reunited site have pieced together a lot of their history.

They had twelve children of whom 10 survived to maturity.

From the name connection my guess is that your Samuel Dungworth Peacock must be a grandson of Thomas and Eliza.

From the IGI information it appears as though Samuel Peacock was living with his Uncle, William Hinchliffe, during the 1881 Census. Samuel was then a boy of 10. Also living with them was another nephew, Harry, born in 1858.

William Hinchliffe, or Hinchcliffe as written in the will of Thomas, married Sarah the second daughter of Thomas and Eliza. William was described as a filesmith at the time of Thomas' death in 1871. At the time of the 1881 Census he was a beerhouse keeper. I cannot at the moment find details of Harry or Samuel on the IGI records. However Harry was described as a joiner on the 1881 Census and we also know that the eighth child of Thomas and Eliza, by the name of Henry, was a joiner in Sheffield. Henry giving the name Harry to his first born seems logical!
I cannot at the moment find more information on Henry as to his wife.

If you check on the Genes Reunited site you will get lots of details by checking names and birth dates.

Eliza Dungworth was the daughter of Samuel and Sarah Dungworth who lived at Whirlow Lane Farm, Sheffield. This farm subsequently passed to Thomas Peacock, born 1827, the oldest surviving son of Thomas and Eliza Peacock.

For further information on Samuel Dungworth and his ancestors go to the www/dungworth.com site. This will take you back to 1560ish.

Thomas Peacock, born 1801, was the son of Thomas and Ann Peacock of Eckington in Derbyshire. Thomas senior was born in 1766 and his wife, Ann Carline was born on 11/07/1770. On IGI Ann's family can be traced back to Thomas Fletcher in Alfreton in Derbyshire who was born in 1683.

The only other IGI record I have found was Samuel D Peacock marrying Rosina Nablo on 03 Feb 1898 in Fisherville, Haldimand, Ontario.

Hope this ties in with what you know and is of some use,

Best regards

Wow, thanks so much... I had become quite frustrated with the brick wall I came up against a few months ago, but your findings have renewed my interest and energy!

Thank you for your help. I will definitely check out the Dungworth site.
