.....not a full shilling, a sandwich short of a picnic, or is it ME!!!!

1st, we had to rehome our pet dog due to my wife's illness. We offered him free to a good home, with all his belongings, toys, food, traveling cage etc. etc. A chap called Tim rang from Wath, sounded like he could give him a really good home and we arranged to take the dog up the following day so they could meet him and we could see the home they were offering.

A couple of hours after all was arranged, I contacted him again by text message and said if he would like to give me his email address, I would send him some photos in advance.

At this suggestion, he immediately rang me back and said we were invading his and his family's privacy, that we were questioning their sincerity and integrity and that they wanted nothing more to do with the matter.

Weird or what!!

2nd, I have a shower enclosure for sale (to put this in context it is brand new worth 5 or 6 times what I am asking for it). Someone from Wakefield rang up Thursday and arranged to pick it up today. They rang back this afternoon, got the address and directions and set off. They rang me an hour later, and it appears they had taken a wrong turn near Crystal Peaks and ended up on the Parkway (I figured this out later). They rang me up trying to explain where they were but they couldn't see any landmarks. I told them to drive a bit further and I would ring them back to save their phone bill. When I rang them back they were now on the A61 heading towards Hillsborough and when they got to Wickes at the bottom of Rutland Road they pulled into their car park.

I suggested if it was easier, they could wait there, I would put the item in my car and drive down to meet them. At this, they said they couldn't be bothered any more and they were going home!!!! I asked them if they were sure (I was talking to his mate on the phone who had come to help him but could here the prospective purchaser in the background) and repeated my offer, to which he said "No, I've had enough and I'm just going back home".

ROTFLMAO - I mean, why come all that way and do that!!!!

Am I saying something wrong? Am I wrong to think they are a brick short of a full pallet? Is it actually me that is losing his mind?

(Answers on a postcard to....)

Which is why I would value others opinions based on the facts as presented.

Apart from that, it is good to express ones exasperation verbally.

God Yes! We are not allowed to be protective for our own security or ask questions of others ads, we are treated weird if we be nice and friendly, also disrespected if not talkative. The run of the mill person these days is totally impossible to please and any genuine decent person who doesn't deliberatly cause upset etc, but tries to be a good soul is tormented for it. Hope you managed to get a good home for your dog in the end.:)

Sorry to hear your wife is ill. That's the least they should expect, of a decent dog owner. I'm glad you put the checks in, if they didn't want to play ball (pardon the pun!), then the dog indeed deserves better and so do you.

UPDATE

The man for the shower has rung again this morning and said if he finds his way back to near Hillsborough, will I go and meet him!!!!

Is this groundhog day, or what?

Anyway, I am meeting him at the motorway junction, just in case!!!

Sorry Yorkiepud but I would have told him that if he was so interested in the item (which he obviously is or wouldn't have rang back), then if he couldn't be bothered to come to the house, then not to bother!
You must have more patience than me love!

Tell the man to use google maps, then get directions,he could either print off the directions or write them down.:D

lol - He said he knew J31 at Swallownest as he used to be a HGV driver!!!! so how come he couldn't find Hackenthorpe duh. (wonders if anyone used to get their deliveries).

Anyway, bonus for me, I had reduced the item by £20 last week, but he obviously hadn't noticed the new add and gave me the original asking price, so in a sense I got a bit extra for my trouble anyhow.

Thank you, yes.

He is now residing with a mature female owner West Yorkshire who devotes all her time to him and who is more than happy to ring up my wife, chat about him for hours, and send photos via email, so we can see how happy he is, which is really nice.

Some odd folk out there.

Obviously did not want the dog that much then.

Some real timewasters out there and hats off to you for your patience you have more than I have.

oh well, they do say anybody you 'meet' on t'internet must be strange :P :loopy: :hihi:

I suppose I could have been accused of something similar, having responded to a wanted ad on here, but I wasn't about to invite a stranger round to the house in a week when Mr Strix was away, and meeting in a carpark in a strange part of town seemed even more 'asking for it' in my book!

He now has my shelves though
