View Full Version : Audacity failing to record streaming audio

I've used Audacity (version 1.2.6) for months without a problem to record streaming audio. I use the 'what you hear' setting, and essentially just click on the record button while RealPlayer plays the streaming audio I want to record.

It's recently developed this problem: clicking the record button starts the recording process but nothing is recorded. I see a flatline where the peaks and troughs of the wavelengths should be displayed, and nothing is audible on playback.

As far as I'm aware, I've made no alteration to any Audacity setting. I'm having a problem with my sound card sockets/speaker plugs in that I currently have no sound from the front two and centre speakers, and a hissy, spitty feedback noise when I wobble the speaker plugs. I don't think that's relevant, but I've included it here just in case.

Any help much appreciated. Thanks.

I'll chalk this one up to my technical incompetence. I had a new motherboard battery fitted a few weeks ago. When I reconnected the speakers to the sound card, I used the microphone socket  . All five speakers are now functioning correctly, as is Audacity (no idea it could be influenced by a bit of hardware).

Still, it gave the bloke who fixed it something (and someone) to point and laugh at :hihi: .
