This is of no real help to you in practice and I hope the fact I've replied doesn't raise your hopes before you read this.
A couple of weeks ago someone tried to break into my partners car, they were interrupted by our neighbours. They didn't get away with it, despite having begun to open it up by prising back the metal like a tin of sardines.
No witnesses, no fingerprints, no identification etc. However, last night a police officer came to our house and took all the details we had and told us a lot of what the current objective is, regarding car crime in Sheffield.
If you have reported your car stolen, I feel there is a high chance you'll find out about it.
I hope your insurance will do everything they can too.
There is more going on with the police and their surveillance than I had realised and I'm impressed.
