Can anyone help with a piece of old brassware? It is a square tube about six inches long, it is engraved on one side with the name Thomas beighton, Merchant 1655. The other side has the words "I was in Sheffield made and many will witness I was not made by any man". It has been described as a Scribe Box, I am not convinced the date is genuine, or what it's function is. Has any one heard of Thomas Beighton, or can anyone throw any light on this
