View Full Version : Help Me/Us Raise Money For Comic Relief 05???
bigflesh 04-03-2005, 21:03 Help,
I have a problem. So frustrating. I want to raise money for Comic Relief 05'. But I want to be really original. I want to do something that is totally different from the run of the mill stuff like... downing 50 kebabs in 1 hour, running 10 miles without keeling over, saving all my hair off, stop smoking for 1 year (even though I do not smoke).
...........Surely there has to be something in the way of "hair-brained" loopy ideas that will really help to help those who need it most - if the people of Sheffield come together and contribute to this thread with their ideas?
So I was wondering, can the Sheffield Forum help? Maybe we could even sort something jointly?
Lets get our brains into gear...........
and.... remember.....
Disabled people are still being denied equal rights
Every year thousands of women and children are forced to flee violent homes
Young people continue to live and work on the streets and some are exploited for sex
Teenagers experience problems with drugs and alcohol
Older people are too easily written off and denied opportunities to participate in society
People living in deprived communities do not have the resources to make the changes they need and want to make
People arriving in the UK in search of freedom and safety are often met with hostility and prejudice
Thousands of people experience discrimination because of the colour of their skin, their culture or their sexuality.
Can Sheffield (or me) make a difference? Your answers here.....
oh, and ... TROTW ...
600 million children live in poverty.
125 million primary-school-age children are not in school.
120 million children between five and 14 work full time and a further 130 million work part time.
300,000 child soldiers are actively fighting in 41 countries throughout the world.
Between 1993 and 1996 45% of victims of war were children.
In the 1990s war and conflict made 12 million children homeless, 4 million were maimed or became disabled, and 10 million witnessed acts of brutality.
34.7 million children have lost one or both parents to HIV/AIDS.
2 million children are involved in prostitution.
FairyNormal 05-03-2005, 22:38 My daughter and her mates once raised almost £200 doing a sponsored 'no hands jelly eating contest'!! It was such fun! They ate plates of runny jelly with their hands tied behind their backs. They did it in the local shopping centre and people paid money to have a go themselves as they were having so much fun!

These figures are frightening and humbling. We have to do something.
What can we do?

GimmeSomePK 06-03-2005, 05:16 Just had a thought... well a few sort of linked thoughts that i'll try to combine.
What's needed is not just money, but stuff. You know the ads you see... 39p will feed this child for a day etc. This packet of seeds could... etc. Someone i know, for christmas recieved a goat. It was a card that cost as much as a goat somewhere in africa i think and the card promised that a family had been given a goat because of that card. So if we had a list of everything that was needed, or even just a target then people could actually buy something specific and that could be knocked off the list.
For example imagine a website almost like an online store....
Water pumps needed in this village: 3 - cost each £49
hmmm... i'm not feeling that flush... what else...
School text books needed: 142 - cost each £4
I'll buy a couple of those! i was going to sponsor someone a tenner for eating jelly with no hands... couple of quid left, what else is there...
See where i'm going on this one... wonder if there is anything like this? Might look into it.

Sam Miguel 06-03-2005, 10:21 What about a 'forumathon' on here on Friday? I have been trying to organise one of these for years now, but to no avail.
The idea would be to post jokes and funny things continually over a period of say twelve or twenty-four hours.
I would have thought this idea may a bit short notice now. Nevertheless, it could be implemented.
What do you reckon?
sponsered stupid guiness book of records attempts!!!
theres some well stupid stuff you can do....and get your name in the book if you inform them :D
i dunno....how many gobstoppers you can hold in your mouth, how many cows you can milk in a hour (heely farm? haha), how many strangers you can get a big hug off, walk everywhere for the whole day wearing high heels but your not allowed to explain to passers by why, stand on fargate and let kids throw water ballons (that you supply) at you...50p a throw
sillyness comes easy!.. if you have the mental age of a 10 year old
let us know what you get up to :D
bigflesh 06-03-2005, 12:33 Geoff/Admin team....
Thank you so much for putting my thread on your ticker!!!!
Keep those ideas coming in!!!

Gimme, a fantastic idea!!! I wonder too if anyone else is doing this......... the collective brains on this site fill me with inspiration and wonderment. I'd buy that for a dollar!!!
Martin_s 06-03-2005, 13:33 This may not help massively but it's all money to the same cause right...
I gave up crisps for Comic Relief for two years... yes TWO... I get to eat Walkers Salt and Vinegar again in less than a week!!
Anyways... if anyone wants to sponsor me post achievement and wave a bag of crisps in my face for a bit before the deadline then let me know... All moneys to Comic Relief obviously..
Oh and I believe there's a Fashion Show going on as per usual up at the University of Sheffield if anyone wants to go along... I'll get hold of details but I ran it twice in the past so it's all good fun :)
how about a sponsered cross dress run around town? always wanted an excuse to wear suspenders in public... lol... just kidding... maybe lol...
but seriously, stupid wacky stuff is always the way to go... I'm currently very bored so I'm willing to do almost anything anyone will suggest to raise money! you name it I'll do it if I can get sponsers to raise enough dosh to be worthwhile!
I was thinking of doing a people auction. Basically it would be a silent auction where people put themselves up for bidding and a phot of them plus some details of themselves are out on top of a box and people simply write their name and their bid on a card and post it into the box. The highest bidder gets to take that person out for the evening.
It could take place in a pub and their could be buckets placed round the bar for loose change as well.
What do people think of this idea????
I'll do it, as long as theres a rule that doesn't allow me to be auctioned to some 40yr old woman! ewwwwww that would be SO wrong! lol... then again, theres not much interest in me at the moment whilst I dont cost anything for a date, can't really see anyone bidding money to take me out... lol
I'm guessing it would only really work well with hot women and hot blokes who people would pay to go on a date with!

I'll do it provided I do get auctioned to some 40 year old woman (I can be flexible 10 years either way)
Martin_s 07-03-2005, 17:00 Just to update...
The Comic Relief Fashion Show 05 is at the Octagon on the 17th of March.. Tickets £5 in advance (presumably from the Union ticket office) and £6 on the door..
No idea on the format but remember it's for Comic Relief so it's likely to be a good night... Not that I'm at all biased having done it twice ;)
bigflesh 08-03-2005, 19:40 come on gang - lets see some focus in this area..... only 3 days to go for the main event - lets make it a record breaker!
I errrrr, last year got dared to go round dressed in cling film for Comic Relief. So I thought, yeah alright, I'll do it! Noone can really laugh or take the p*** because its for charity!!!
Raised £2047. It was mental. Very sweaty though mind you...
