about the dog smell in my house any one else have this problem...i cnt bl**dy smell it grrr

I wouldn't know if I did as I probably can't smell it either, and no one else comes to the house!
The landlord is coming on friday though, so hope there isn't a smell. :o

The only smell I notice about my dog is her food, haha!

I don't notice my dog's smell particularly (unless they've been in a peat bog!) but I do like giving the place a thorough clean and making it smell nice. I don't notice it smell really bad, but I know it can smell better! :lol:

hunni I know what you mean, I'm sure you can smell guineas and litter trays when you come ito my house, but I'm so used to it I don't notice. Oh well, as long as I'm not suffering:hihi:

They dont hunnii- ALL dogs reek- Ailsa is just one big cheese- imagine having to share the bed with her! Just do what I do n get the steamer out and give all the soft furnishings/mattresses/ carpets a blast, that should sort it out. I spray that 1001 carpet freshener on the rug, curtains n cushions just before visitors call too- works a treat. I ditched the fabric sofa years ago and switched to leather- easier to clean and doesnt absorb that choice mutt aroma.

Oh and dont mention the word 'B-A-T-H' in dog earshot but get them in the shower first chance you can.

Its your house not theirs, if they don't like it they shouldn't come, just point em in the direction of the cleaning stuff tell em to sort it themselves if they don't like it.... all that really gets on my nerves.
In my house its the hairs people complain about and yes theres a lot well so what :rant:
My house smells of dogs as well I smell it where others don't always actually, but dogs and cats live here its part and parcel of having them and I want them here, they are far less trouble than the visitors :suspect:

This is a phenomenon known as anosmia. Constant smells stop being noticed by our brains after as little as a few hours, so I can no longer smell my favourite perfume because I wear it so often. The same applies to animal smells. I'm sure that most people would notice the smell of litter trays in my house as well as the 'eau de wet german shepherd', even though I can't smell them any more.

It doesn't mean that yours are particularly pongy xxhunniixx, it just means that your visitors notice it because your house smells different to theirs. If you want to reduce the smells then use either a steamer to digest the smells or have a spray around with a decent odour killer that's intended for pet smells (Safe4 make a good one and there are lots of others around).

I'm sure people can smell my rabbits, I just do my best to keep them clean and tell anyone who mentions that the smell of hay is better than the smell of pee.

Oooooh but me too, I'm right paranoid! I quite like the smell of hay from the pigs, but litter trays are very hard to keep absolutely fresh all the time. They must stink sometimes:(

Mine stink to high heaven at the moment - even I can smell it! Purely because I couldn't be bothered to bath Takara after Rivelin yesterday!

my mate stayed over last night and he txt me today sayin it was really bad this mornin but i cudnt smell it i told him to have a wash lmao!

I get people (mainly the parents!) complaining about the dog / cat smell, but mostly the hairs - we have a big hairy GSD and 5 cats for gods sake! But mostly its the "oh i don't know how you cope with all this hair / wet dog smell / muddy paw prints comments that do my head in. I KNOW we have lots of hair - i hoover every morning, its hairy again an hour later. I KNOW we have the wet dog smell sometimes - it rains, the dog gets wet, the dog smells. Deal with it, We do! I KNOW we get muddy paw prints on the floors - thats why i have laminate floor in the lounge and lino in the kitchen. Why oh why do people need to make these comments as though it's something NEW to us? It's our house, if people don't like it, then they should leave us alone!!!! Rant over! :hihi:

lol ditto drives me crazy but then i can get in there car after comin from stables n they dnt mention the horsey smell (baffled :loopy:)

I have a basset hound, and they have a really strong oudour, when people come to my house they sometimes comment but it doesn't bother me, if you have a dog it's something you except.
I'd love to use loads of air freshners but they seem to irritate his skin, so the only thing to do is bathe them regulary and use fabric freshner (on the furniture not the dog lol)

Yes, my dobey also has smelly paws, I dont know why that should be, as I also have another smaller dog and her paws dont smell at all!!

I have noticed that some have a strong smell others don't, and also I noticed that some dogs smell around the belly area too.
The wipes from wilkinsons are good but I don't like the smell of the lavender ones yuk! :gag:

thankfully greyhounds dont tend to smell much which is a godsend considering i have so many here, generally people say they cant smell anything, but we have all wood, and lino floors downstairs and leather settees, only carpets upstairs, so that helps. a good tip, Yankee candles are fab, i use the tart burners, they are very natural not at all like horrible plug in things that make me wheeze, they make the whole house smell from just one small tart and its burns for months and have hundreds of flavours. anna.x.

I'm so self aware of the smells etc in my house due to my own mothers comments:rant:, that even now she's not around i winge and whine about it all the time, worry something daft if someone is coming about the state our house is in and if it smells! It's crazy and as others have said and my hubby is constantly telling me, it's my house and if others don't like it tough! We have 5 children and home educate so never not around, so can never actually fully tidy up etc.......S*d them, If you are happy thats all that matters.:hihi:

Presumably it's friends or family in your house.
If you don't want their opinion then maybe you could tell them and they probably won't be your friends anymore. Family can't stop being family, but they could stop visiting you I suppose.

Or you could accept that if many people say it then it's probably true.

My house must stink but I don't care :hihi: Apperently sprinkling bicarb on your carpets and leaving it for 15 minutes before hoovering works wonders. As does sprinkling lavender, leaving as above then hoovering. Worth a try I suppose and cheap enough!
