Everyone should probably be aware of two guys offering speakers for sale that are worth $2000. They say they are delivery drivers and have a spare set. The speakers are 'matrix mx1200'
A quick google showed that it is a common scam.

This is a well known scam. I can remember on two occasions coming across guys doing this back in 1999. Both times were on West Street, although I heard that they'd later been seen at the Endcliffe student village.
The idea is that they'll tell you they have a "spare" speaker set from an invoice mistake and they'll sell it to you cheap. When you refuse their asking price they'll haggle you down to something which seems like a bargain. When you've handed over the cash they then take the box out of the van, yell "it's the police" and leg it. When you open the box you find it doesn't contain the speakers but is filled with heavy books.
I did manage to get the number of the rental company they were with
If you are idiotic enough to buy stuff out of the back of a van, then tough you deserve it.

My sentiments entirely.
(Fully flagged up ice cream vendors aside, of course. Cider flavour lollypop anyone?)
Just incase anyone was wondering.. I didn't buy any, Just told them it was a bit too 'The real hustle'

I suggest you phone 220 2020 and pass on the information to the local police. Details of the rental van and descriptions of the men will help the police do their job and hopefully stop anyone being ripped off...

Wow, still at it. A mate of mine bought some 'spare' speakers from the back of a transit in 1995, somewhere around the moor.
Clearly dodgy as hell, but he did get a lift home off them and an absolutely enormous pair of speakers.
Whilst there are still stupid people daft enough to buy things off people in the street then there will conmen looking to make some easy money. Next week it'll be someone buying a laptop computer out of the back of a car - hand over the cash and receive the laptop bag full of magazines or books or bottles of water.
IF IT SEEMS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE - IT IS !!!!
They used to do the telly's, videos, all shrink wrapped and looking good, all c**p and not working ,around the Antique fairs.
Give em a miss.
