LoopyLou 04-03-2005, 09:39 So how many times a day do you check out the forum?
Are you on line all day or just popping in and out?
Do you find yourself straying to the forum for another fIx instead of doing something else that you should be doing?
Is there a helpline?
Is there a way out ??????????????????:help:

LoopyLou 04-03-2005, 09:45 Still its better than been addicted to a lot of other things I could mention......
Now I really must log off and get some proper work done....
beansfeast 04-03-2005, 09:51 Errr work.... work.... work!?
Rings a bell somewhere... :heyhey:
PaulTansley 04-03-2005, 09:57 I find the forum usefull for the latest news which members report well before the papers get hold of it.
Its a kind of privalage that we are one step ahead of the media.
Also crimes that are reported on here sometimes never get in the papers.
I would not say I was addicted because I spend very little time online but when I am on line I spend most of my time on here.
Swan_Vesta 04-03-2005, 10:30 I wouldn't say I was addicted to being on the forum, however I do enjoy having access to it. It doesn't affect my work output as I only log on in lunch or when work is slack ( or when I can't face ploughing through yet another costing!).
I suppose, like anything where an individuals attention can be held for an extended period, any online forum could become habitual but as long as people know how to balance their time on here with other commitments then its all good.
While this forum is a very useful and valuable resource for local info ... it is also my favourite procastination activity ... which is not good.
I've even tried to find out how to block this site in my browser (firefox) ... anyone know how to do this?
I check the forum a fair few times a day!
If you leave it for ages posts build up and you have to filter through them! :P

Yes, disable cookies, and you cannot log in. It will show you logged in, but you cannot post

Don_Kiddick 04-03-2005, 13:31 I was addicted when I first found it December back.
But am becoming more fed up with the cliqueyness & lack of freedom of speech & the way newbies are harrassed - all highlighted in previous recent threads.

We all have to take our turn at being harrassed and put down, it use to bother me, no more now as i can see it's from the same people all the time, easy to tell these people have no aurthority or say in their own homes and have to use the forum as a kind of therapy, they have to have a say somplace and the forums a good place to hide behind, gives them that superior feel they lack at home.

The direct approach is prefered by some members, and sometimes protagonists need reminding of the relationship between the pot and the kettle
WallBuilder 04-03-2005, 17:31 I must admit i do tend to look at the forum if I'm perched in front of the computer, after all you never know what new bit of chat will give you a giggle.
I must come across as pretty inoffensive as I've only had a couple of minor harrassments and as I'm thick-skinned or in many cases armour plated most insults or hassle aimed at me are treated as 'water off a duck's back'.
I suppose my answer is ----yes I am.

Yes, I am kind of intrigued. You joined nearly a year ago, made a couple of posts, and then virtually nothing until the turn of this year. Suddenly you become an addict and have notched up over 1,200 posts. What happened?

I'm really shy and it took me a long time to get to grips with joining an existing forum for fear of being slapped down for asking friendly questions!
In reality, I got made redundant, and SF is better than watching Trisha! I've turned down loads of jobs since that don't allow me to surf the internet all day! :D
If you suddenly see me go quiet, you'll know that I'm back in paid employment! Shouldn't be too long, but I promise not to desert you guys all together!
What was that noise just then?!? Ahh right, it was the collective sigh of relief from my fellow forummers!

I guess that is because they neither agree nor disagree.
Or maybe it is because they disagree but dont want to get in to a diasgreement?
Does that make sense?
Will anyone reply?
I check in usually in the morning before work and around 7 pm to see if there are any interesting posts, but I select the ones I like.
I am interested in the housing market and political issues and news of things going on in Sheffield

I know what you mean espadrille, but don't take it personally! I always find it a bit weird when you either start a new topic or reply to an existing one and people's reaction's are always a bit random. Sometimes you think it will 'take off' and it doesn't, and other times a thread sort of runs away when you don't expect it to (like the one about women drinking pints - didn't expect such a reaction!).
I'm pretty addicted, need to get my forum fix every day, even if I don't post everyday I have to keep up with what's going on! Been trying to keep away a bit recently, have to do some work at some point!
I pop in from time to time to check my pm box and to see whats been talked about but dont make a bee line for the forum as soon as I turn my pc on.
Every couple of days or so....more if I'm bored!!
With the forum due to go off line this week for a short time, I was just wondering if this was causing any worry for people?

redrobbo 19-04-2005, 22:20 Addicted? Mmmmm, let me consider this question.
Q. Do I log on each and every day?
A. Yes.
Q. Do I read all the different sections?
A. No.
Q. Why Not?
A. Ain't enough time in the day.
Q. How long do I stay logged on?
A. Start mid-evening, stay on until 2, 3, 4 or 5am.
Q. Do I go into the chat room?
A. No - not java enabled. Damn!
Q. Has the ironing been done?
A. Not for 2 weeks now.
Q. When did I last have a bath?
A. 2 days ago.
Q. When did I last eat?
A. What is eating but a distraction from the forum.
Q. Do I watch the television?
A. Explain meaning of television.
Q. Do I sleep?
A. Only inbetween logging on to the forum.
Q. Have I been flamed?
A. Yes.
Q. How did I feel about this?
A. Quite relaxed. I lit a cigar to celebrate. I felt I'd lost my virginity as a newbie.
Q. Do I regard myself as addicted?
A. Sorry, haven't time to read this post anymore, just received a PM! Now...who could this be from I wonder?
sicubitt 20-04-2005, 00:57 I sometimes get insomnia and the forum is addictive when there's no good telly on.

Kristian 20-04-2005, 00:59 To be flamed, is to have someone respond to you in a negative way. That kind of thing!

I'm taking my AS exams, first one in 11 days - so what on Earth am I doing here?

Ousetunes 14-05-2005, 08:43 I must admit, it's becoming a bit of a problem. I get to work and within minutes I'm back on here. And every few minutes I press refresh to see what's happened since I last looked.
So yes, I'm an addict - but I don't think it's harming anything. (I'm also my own boss so who's going to tell me otherwise? Hehe!!)
I too am an adict - alebeit not as bad as some! I am on here whenever i get chance!!
must admit i am addicted, more in the first week i couldnt drag myself away. :loopy:its a bit more under control now tho

Thanks for trying strix, I'm sort of getting it sorted now! I'm off to bed in a bit so night all! Lots of work will get done as I've got a late start so can spend those two hours doing homework and then I've got four hours of babysitting in the night and the kids will be in bed so I can get it done then!
I'm really trying to keep off the forum - the trouble is the people I babysit for are members of the forum and have broadband so have said to go online whenever I want! Not a good thing to tell me!

I don't think I'm quite as addicted as I used to be... I still probably log on about once a day on average but sometimes I also manage to go, two, maybe three days without a forum fix ;) :P

My sister looked totally confused when she arrived the day I met Litha. She just couldn't comprehend meeting people in real life who you've only met online.
And this from somebody who frequents the rock clubs of the midlands and yorkshire? :hihi:
I explained that Litha had a shop, which is where I went, and she calmed down into just looking slightly confused :D
I don't think she understood the concept of meeting up with people off the internet to walk our dogs either - and it was quite scary giving my phone number to somebody I could only identify by a rotating star :suspect: I'd seen pictures of Fergus already though :D

I used to get this a lot, although people seem more accepting of it nowadays. Between 1996-98 I used to employ a lot of people to do design & programming work for me who I'd never met, most of them were in foreign countries, a few in Belgium and the USA and one guy in Sweden. Most of them I met eventually, although some not until I'd been working with them "virtually" for a couple of years. Oddly enough (or not), some of my strongest friendships originated that way.
:heyhey: i am not in no way addicted,:heyhey: noway what so ever:heyhey: not in this world :heyhey: my nurse said so!:heyhey:

Now I can understand why people spend so much time on computers.I always think of other things I could be doing,LIke cleaning the house ,or weeding the garden, but no I really love my computer, and couldnt live without it.Cant help feeling guilty though, dont know why.

sugarnspice 16-08-2005, 22:43 I am very addicted and kind of mourn my life because I no longer have one.
*Sobs into g&t*
:suspect:
Could someone please get this laptop away from me?
Swap you for mine Deavon :D
I think yours might be slightly more addictive...
Totally, completely and utterly. Went away to get some peace, quiet and no distractions so that I could get on with some urgent work; All I want is a computer with direct access to SF. :D
SpiderPete 29-08-2005, 13:35 No I aint addicted <liar> only done 677 posts since last September.
But I feel it might become addictive though.

WELL before i came on this forum i was on another forum... but on that forum no one from sheffield was on it...
Since i joined this forum iv met loads of lovely people and become good mates with some, so yeah its bought fun back into my life....
I have to admit I have become a forum addict. My sister discovered it first, then my mum and I started reading the posts and she became a member before I eventually did. I have been away from work on sick leave for the last nine weeks so my sanity was saved by either sitting in the sun or reading the posts on this forum. I have gone back to work just part time at the moment and thought my addiction would wane, but no, as soon as I get home I'm back on! I have resisted the temptation to have a peek while i'm at work but I do miss it. Am I sad? :|
This forum has been a great help to me, from the advice and offer of support etc, to just the friendly chat (sometimes):suspect: im a forum addict. AND PROUD OF IT!
:D

SpiderPete 24-09-2005, 21:08 Has the forum done it for you?
Well I must admit I am a bit addicted (never lol), and although I am logged in nearly everynight when I am not out, I am not always here, but keep popping back, toight for instance I am updating my website listening to Barry White etc etc.
I started very slowly on here, took nearly 10 months before I did any serious posting, have met some great friends off here, too many to mention, they know whe they are, and even got them on MSN as well.
Can I do without this place ... pobably not.
Its the best thing since sliced bread, and the best thing about this place is you can be "yourself"

Draggletail 24-09-2005, 21:17 The Forum? I ended up buying a laptop because of it. I felt guilty, always in the 'other room' on the PC whilst Mrs Draggle sat on her own in front of the tele.
Now we can sit together. Awwwww:love:
mikeyspikey 24-09-2005, 21:20 thanks Draggletail for getting us back onto the real meaning of the thread!
Does it remind you of the Brown Eyed girl thread Mikey?:hihi:
mikeyspikey 24-09-2005, 21:30 ouch i expected that!!:) point taken!!

What, in 2005 you mean?
You'll never guess, and I don't mean to spoil the surprise, but in the future The Spice Girls get back together and forummers start going camping instead of to the Dev Cat. :o
