Interesting site here which states that the United Kingdom has the safest roads in Europe. Does this mean that UK driving standards are better?

Yet, we seem to be plagued by cameras and unnecessary speed bumps.

Driving standards here have to be better than in Spain, Italy and France :P but it's quite possible that all the cameras and speed bumps actually contribute to road safety ?

Our roads have been amongst the safest in europe for years and years.

I find it odd though that these 'Safety Cameras' are meant to be working (and taxing) wonders, yet accidents rose last year, despite the constant influx of them, and their associated talivans.

I'm sorry, but I am unable to respond to this because I don't understand what you mean.

:)

I have a few friends who live on Corfu. When I have been out to see them I have often remarked to my drinking cronies;

'Look at that! If he were in Britain, he would have an army of blokes with clipboards trailing him'

And he would.

We have clamper's, wardens, coppers, pretend coppers, sleeping policemen, DVLA personnel, council workers, cameras, lines in paint and more lines in paint, you name it they are after the motorist.

I firmly believe that the driving standards are much better here and this is the reason why the roads are the safest. Most accidents are caused by driver errors mainly through inattention, not even knowing, or firmly believing they are right when they're not. The latter is the hardest to change away from bad driving habits. I don't see where Humps and cameras come into this, it's the driving standards surely, so why do we need cameras everywhere?

Yes, the roads in the UK are safer compared to Germany at least.
- Over there cars coming from the right have priority,
- cars can turn right even if there is a green man for pedestrians (they are suppsoed to wait but "forget")
- there is often no speed limit on the motorways, so you get idiots going at 150mph on two lane autobahns who them have to brake at short notice and *bang*
- What I've never seen in the UK is cars going the WRONG WAY up the motorway. It happens all the time in Germany, why I don't know why. Maybe driving on the left is more natural.

Oh, and there are speed cameras and bumps everywhere here too as well.
