We had a wired monitor with a picture, and wire or not, I think if you can afford something with a screen so you can see little one, it'll make all the difference - especialy as they get older and you can see if they're about to escape over the side, or if they're screaming for real, or just lying down doing their nails while giving their lungs a workout for your benefit.
I would add this as a warning, however: we used a decent shop security system (got it free) with a rather larger screen than that, and it was just good enough to see him in a small room with a night light on. A friend got one similar and the room was too big or the screen resolution wasn't so good - either way, the montor turned out to be completely useless to her as she couldn't make out her kids on it at all.
Just a few ideas to be going on with...
That would be me, useless monitor. If you will spend the money get it right first time.
Also, I prefer wired where possible as EMFs are not baby and toddler friendly, especially since their bone density is much reduced compared to an adult. EMFs are NOT good anyway and cause various issues, might as well skip them IMO.

is EMS consists in infra red or all wireless devices ? wired is abit troublsome coz we might be either in kitchen or living room,,
if we have wireless with monitor we could take it anywhere with us.

And baby could take it anywhere with them once they grew a little ;) I wouldn't imagine it would last all that long. Lol.
The problem is that we are bathed in EM fields. If the cot is next to a wall with mains cables running through it, the baby will get a constant exposure to a low frequency field.
If you have WiFi in the house, or leave a cell phone on near the baby - ditto.
I wouldn't necessarily let concern about EM fields of the size that we're talking about become too much of a fetish, but it is worth not locating the unit too close to the baby.
