Hi all

I look after my mums garden and have done a lot of work on it over the last two years but my biggest problem is the lawn. The problems is in the winter is is very sludgy bit come summer it gets so dry from the clay soil it cracks. I want to reseed it as I cant afford to have it returfed but the garden is used by my kiddy winkies and dogs and my mums chickens. I have read that clover is a bit of a cheat to get greener grass if you are not to bothered about the type off grass and i know I will have to ressed it a bit at a time to keep the munchkins off it while it germinates but does anyone have any other advice. Oh and i dont use fertlizers or pesticides in the garden. Apart from chicken poo. :D so suggestions must be bug chicken dog and child friendly.

Thanks

Waxy

Worth going up and down the lawn with a fork and sticking it in every few inches then wiggle it and then pull it out leaving a hole. Once you have done this you can then grab a bag of 'sharp' sand from your local DIY store and then brush it into the holes, you can do this a couple of times a year. This will do 2 things, it will aerate the roots of the grass and improve the drainage of the lawn as the sand will be incorporated into the soil.

In addition to this - before you mow each time grab the grass rake and give it a good brush - this will bring out the 'thatch' and allow the grass to breath.

Oh and if you want to feed it - why not grab a tub of pelleted chicken manure!
