Recently i have been looking into getting a leopard gecko, after reading a lot of contradicting info i just wanted to get a few things straight!

What sort of housing is best? Plastic tanks, glass or a proper viv. I know the plastic ones will be easier to clean out but will they give it enough space?

Also what heat source is best, bulb or mat? and is a thermostat needed.

Do any gecko owners have pics of their set ups for me to look at? Just so i can get an idea of what is needed.

And now onto the subject of food...Ive heard some sites say that meal worms are the best source of food for geckos because they are easily kept alive and easy for the gecko to eat once placed in a bowl, Is this true? If so how many should be fed a day.

Thats about it for now!:help:

Hi leopard geckos and any geckos are really cool and fairly easy to keep in terms of reptiles. I'll try and answer most of your questions in one post but I'm on my phone at the moment and long posts are hard.

Geckos can be housed very easisly and only need a small viv or young ones can be kept in a fanarium.
heating usually is done by heat mat but you can use a red bulb in a viv if you want as they can't see red light.

Personally I dont like meal worms they are evil and can inflict bites to geckos I prefer a cricket and hopper diet with them dusted at least 3 times a week.

If you pm me your email address I'll send you pictures of my geckos viv

i would say a vivarium is best how many do you plan on getting if only one i would say somthing round the size off 30" 15"15 ,but some people prefer small and larger
with heat source i use a red heatbulb ,heat matt and a 15watt smaller blue bulb for viewing i only have the red heat one on certain times off the day and night to try and copy a natural enviroment,
when it comes to feeding i use both mealies and crickets but crickets mainly, mealies are great for putting on weight but wouldent be the best for a staple diet in my own opinion ,there more fatty and because there easy enough to catch for leos the tend to eat too much
depending on the age and size off your leo i would feed it a handful of crickets a day and mealies every other day,but make sure you take out what they dont eat ,as hungry crickets can cause damage to a leo ,even though the size diffrence, mealies arnt that important to take out as if there in a dish carnt really do any harm.
what substrate are you keeping them on?

I had 3 Leopard Geckos!

Wicked things! really tame and handle lovely... Plus they are fun to watch at feeding time as they are utterly rubbish at hunting!

Theres a few pics of my leos here (http://www.villagephotos.com/pubbrowse.asp?folder_id=1963580)

You can see when Spock was younger she was in a small plastic tank with a paper towel substrate, which was later replaced with Namibia Terra sand (when she reached 6" long), and has been moved upto a larger wooden viv and accompanied by Pinta, my other female.
