On my way to work this morning I noticed that an old car sales showroom on St Mary's Road has been knocked down. Opposite the hire shop place.
Does anyone know what is going to be rebuilt in its place..
I'm guessing apartments??
I think thats a safe guess.
Student accommodation the last I knew.

If you are really interested, call Planning Department on 273 4215 and ask if they can arrange for Application Number 04/02425/FUL to be placed at First Point Reception in Howden House at a time suitable for you to go and look at it.
The good news is that planning application documents should be available for viewing on the website by the end of this year!

Excellent! Will it save the council money in the long run to provide this facility?

It should do. The reason that it has now been pushed for is because of a decision that it was ridiculous to expect councillors and members of the planning boards to have to go to First Point themselves if they wanted to look at an application in advance of a Board Meeting (when the application would be considered).
Any councillor can now have copies made for him/her and the old excuse of copyright as an excuse for not copying has been reconsidered. Lots of copies mean more costs and so web publication should be cheaper.

Apparently its going to be a student housing scheme built by Hawk Estates. The original scheme was to build a tower block each side of St. Marys Rd and have a 'bridge' in the air linking them (?!!) but luckily I think the planners put a stp to that!
This link might be helpful if you want to check out planning applications:

Thats sounds quite interesting, no wonder it didn't get the go ahead.
