My puppy shih tzu Tia keeps eating her poo i have heard that alot of puppies do, do this but its disgusting and i don't know how to make her stop i pick it up but when shes had one sometimes i catch her and tell her no i mean she hasn't done it for a couple of days but does anyone elses do this or know why or even how to make her stop ? thanks

my collie cross puppy was also doing this for a while if its any help she's now grown out of it :)

i hope she does too cause it makes me wanna puke i mean i wouldnt like to eat mine lol

whrn my staffy was a pup she was doing this i got advise from the vet and she told me to put pineapple on top of if as they dont like it yes she ate that as well:hihi:

The name of it is called "coprophagy", and it says in my shih tzu book, it can be a lack of vitamins or deficiency, and vitamin B may help particulary Biotin. Maybe worth a try.

Just do what u said and keep picking it up as soon as they have done it, and maybe she will break the habit. :)

My Meg has a particular taste for cat poo and always has, she knows not to do it while I'm looking but unfortunately my cats have made a toilet area at the bottom of the garden and she legs it down there as much as possible for a good old root around :gag:
And as if thats not bad enough Meg takes her grandma responsibilities very seriously and she has now taught Kira how to find it and eat it too... so Meg has ensured that when she leaves this mortal plane (many years away I hope) that her smelly and disturbing legacy will live on :sad:

i was always led to believe that bitches do this more than dogs &that it stems from when before dogs were domesticated they used to protect thier young from preditors by eating thier waste therefore not leaving a visable indication that they had pups?????

Bitches do eat their pups poo to tidy the nest, but there is also many reasons for adult dogs to eat poo, other dogs poo, cat poo rabbit poo and even human poo. (trust me mine have ate them all):loopy:

Mainly they eat other animal / human poo, cos its tastes good, simple!

They eat there own poo either due to habit or because they are lacking in certain vits.

My puppy used to do that when I got her too, but luckily she's stopped now!
Although it seemed to get worse if I told her no, like, if she poo'd somewhere she shouldn't have, so I told her no, then she'd eat it, it was like she was saying eeek I've been bad so I better clear it up myself!

She still eats her own sick though, I think that's just as bad if not worse, ewwww!


Dogs are SO gross! Eating their own poo, and sick, and other stuff on the streets whilst on a walk, not to mention sniffing other dogs wees/weemails, and then sniffing their bums!

Could you imagine if humans sniffed each others butts every time they saw each other? Haha!
