View Full Version : Who invented the Spork?

I'm sitting here and pondering the ins and outs of world cutlery and certain questions occur to me. The chopsticks seem to be a very advanced method of bridging the gap betwixt plate and mouth, fingers the most basic and the humble knife and fork somewhere inbetween.

But the spork worries me as it seems to be nothing more than a miniature shovel for the piling of food.

Is the spork a symptom of the decline of western civilisation?

Who invented the darn thing?

Or am I worrying about nothing and should I try the culinary shovel instead?

I'm sure there is a spork-like implement in the Millenium gallery from about 200 years ago, when people took their cutlery around with them.

Ah, the folly of man!

The spoon was a good idea...so was the fork.

But they meddled with things beyond the ken of mortal men and thus was born the Spork!

Was it born in a student house where they just pile all the cutlery up together.

They'd never be able breed at our house, they're all in nice seperate little trays in the cutlery draw.

They only get to fraternise in the washing up bowl.
