this looks like it will be a very impressive development in chesterfield
Plans for two multi-million-pound development schemes on neighbouring sites in Chesterfield are being unveiled to the public.
Residents can view images of the £300m Chesterfield Waterside project — an urban village along the River Rother corridor – next Thursday, and maps of the former Demaglass site — Chesterfield FC's new home and the location of a Tesco Extra store – from today.
Developers of the separate schemes on either side of the A61 have released site designs to the Derbyshire Times ahead of the public displays.
The artist's impression of Chesterfield Waterside, a partnership between the borough council and regeneration company Urbo, shows a new canal basin lined with housing, offices and leisure facilities on what was the old Arnold Laver site.
Partnership chairman Peter Swallow said: "By staging this exhibition in the town centre, residents and other interested groups will be able to see for themselves how the scheme will transform Chesterfield and its economy by creating a vibrant waterside environment where people can live, work and enjoy leisure facilities."
Developers of the 40 acre site, which is expected to provide over 1,500 jobs, are keen to receive residents' views before submitting a formal planning application in the summer.
Mr Swallow added: "Although the plans are at an advanced stage, we would welcome any observations or positive suggestions from
local people as we strive to move the scheme forward."
Demaglass developers Wilson Bowden, who are working alongside the Spireites and Tesco, have released a bird's eye map of the 22 acre site.
It shows Chesterfield FC's 10,000-plus seater stadium with a main entrance opposite the fire station on Sheffield Road. The Tesco store is to the left of the A61 bypass and there is a section for 'future development' near the Donkey Derby pub.
Neil Hartley, Wilson Bowden development director, said: "The proposals on display this week show how, through the formation of the partnership with Chesterfield Football Club and Tesco, we can bring the former Demaglass site back to use whilst also creating over 300 new jobs for the area."
The trio intends to submit a planning application next month.

It shows a new canal basin lined with modern housing, office space and leisure facilities — a scheme the developers, Chesterfield Borough Council and regeneration company Urbo, say will bring over 1,500 jobs to the area.
Council leader Cllr Ray Russell said: "This is undoubtedly one of the most exciting projects to take place in Chesterfield for many years.
"It will completely change the outlook of the area around the station and the A61 corridor, which has been in need of regeneration for some considerable time."
A Chesterfield Waterside exhibition will be held at unit 2, The Pavements Shopping Centre next Thursday 28 and Friday 29 10.30am-3.30pm, and next Saturday (1) 10am-3pm.
