Terrier shot or stabbed in eye
A TERRIER has lost an eye after being shot or stabbed by a yob in Sheffield, it was revealed today.
The dog, named Daisy by RSPCA staff, was left to roam the streets of Sheffield for weeks with her severe injuries.
A vet said she may have been shot in the eye or stabbed with a sharp object.
Injuries around the dog's mouth are believed to have been caused during a fight with a fox or a badger and may have been inflicted months ago.
Daisy was rescued when she was spotted by a concerned member of the public on Harborough Avenue, Manor, and picked up by the RSPCA and taken for veterinary treatment.
She is currently being cared for by RSPCA staff and is expected to make a full recovery.

.
I've lost count of the number of times during my years volunteering in rescue that I've felt utter revulsion at what some people are prepared to do to animals.
I've seen animals that have been shot but still (somehow) trust humans. I've got a dog who had one of her legs broken as a puppy but was never taken to a vet so she'll have a limp forever, I've seen cats that have been sealed inside a cardboard box and left in someone's bin on a hot summer's day when they moved out (they were so overheated by the time they were found that they were having fits)- I could go on, but all it would do is to make me even angrier than I am about this issue.
laurajill 22-02-2008, 13:46 That's awful!! I hope they find the culprits and do the same to them!! My neighbours cat was shot through the back with a pellet gun. It ripped into her intestines and she ended up having to have a serious operation.
hang on - who's analysis is this?
so many incidents for one dog?
was this dog poked in the eye by a pet owner defending their own pet against this stray dog?
boy do I love a bit of hysteria

not wanted 22-02-2008, 16:20 What a load of crap and another reason why the star is one of the worst newspapers in the country. No evidence at all of it being stabbed or shot at all but hey lets report it as fact.

Hijacking this thread for a moment, does this mean you have a date at Sheffield Arena on June 23rd?

Well, whatever happened it seems this dog has been subjected to *some* sort of awful ill treatment by some scumbag. To start picking the report to pieces seems a little mean.

No it doesn't and nowhere does it say for certain that the dog was stabbed or shot and it is just another disgusting example of the way that The Star reports stuff. The vet says it "may" have been shot or stabbed. that doesn't mean it happened.
That dog could just have easily have walked in to a branch or twig and got the same injury but then that wouldn't have been newsworthy would it.
tarateets 22-02-2008, 18:02 What ever has happened this dog has clearly been subjected to some terrible ordeal, no doubt with humans responsible, I hope who ever did this suffers a very similar fate. The poor dog has obviously been in agony for ages, left on the streets, no suprise to me it was found on the 'Manor' need I say more.
Hope the poor little thing finds a home she clearly deserves....
And the people who did this to her die a slow painfull death, no doubt they will be a wife beater or future murderer/rapist!!

Welcome to Sheffield Forum. :)

The fact that it had been left to stray for several weeks means it was neglected by whoever it belonged to, and probably led to it being injured without getting treatment. Most caring people will be more concerned about the state of the dog than whether the Star got the story spot on. The RSPCA and a vet have shown concern about the animal, so there is obviously cause for concern.
The thread is about an injured dog, not a newspaper. If you have a problem with the Star, the answer is simple, don't read it.
Hijacking this thread for a moment, does this mean you have a date at Sheffield Arena on June 23rd?If I do, am I likely to bump into you? :D
(actually, Mr Strix says he's not going to squash his 6'2" frame into their seats ever again, so we may be arranging to go to the NEC date and crash at my brother's - if there is an NEC date :) )
back on thread:
I do have every sympathy for this poor dog and the injuries he's suffered, but I just don't think it's helpful to sign up for another Sheffield Star lynch mob when we've no idea what we're signing up for or who we're lynching

There is no evidence at all that a human did this. Do you think you can get that in to your thick head rather than stereotyping people who live on the Manor

Im not stereotyping, just everytime I have cause to drive through the manor there are thin neglected dogs straying everywhere. Im sure there are plenty that are well cared for too.....
If you look at stats for cruelty in that area compared to the rest of Sheffield.......... need I say more!!
irenewilde 22-02-2008, 19:17 If I do, am I likely to bump into you? :D
I'm afraid you might but you'll be O.K. after some counselling....!
(actually, Mr Strix says he's not going to squash his 6'2" frame into their seats ever again, so we may be arranging to go to the NEC date and crash at my brother's - if there is an NEC date :) )
18th June at the NEC. Or you could try Manchester. We may be there too... & I know what you mean about those seats at Sheffield - my husband is a similar height to Mr Strix. I'm only 5' 4" and I find the seats uncomfortable.
I do have every sympathy for this poor dog and the injuries he's suffered, but I just don't think it's helpful to sign up for another Sheffield Star lynch mob when we've no idea what we're signing up for or who we're lynching
Yeah, I know what you mean and I'm no fan of The Star's style of reporting but it just seemed as though this poor dog's suffering was disappearing under a "let's bash The Star" onslaught. Regardless of how she got the injuries, she was wandering the streets with them untreated so there's cruelty there however you look at it. But I can see from your messages you're an animal (hey, managed to get another song title in there!) lover so I know you weren't belittling what happened.
