went in the dove and rainbow at tea time stopped in there for a few hours and had a good time does anyone else go in:)

Dove and rainbow is a great bar for alternative music scene. It has been alternative / punk for as long as I can remember.
The caravan is fantastic.

The major downer about this place is they often run out of beer. And some of the younger crowd in there can get a little loud, shouty and pushy sometimes. But it's a cool place and I go in regularly.

I regularyly drink in the Dove (isn't it called the Tut n Shive now?) and love it. The music is great and in all the time I've been there I've only seen 1 little bit of trouble (wandering football tossers). The usual crowd are great, friendly and stuff.

Admittedly the decor is looking a little tired now and its a pain in the proverbial when they run out of stuff but thats all part of its quirky charm (so I'm told)

Can't be that regularly it hasn't been the tut an shive for at least 2 years!

I remember it being the tut n shive in 1996..

The pub has been there, as the Dove and Rainbow since 1957, before that it was smaller and adjacent since the 18th century!

Lol @ me, shows how often I look at the exterior signage, guess I'm too interested in getting inside to the bar. I must tell my mates as we always talk about meeting in the Tut ha ha. I remember it used to be the Dove n Rainbow when I worked at The Star though that was way back in 1992 and it changed its name to the Tut after I left. I must have missed it changing back

Damn I feel so old fashioned now calling it by the wrong name lol I must pay more attention to the names of places n not just call them what I want.

Well, my mate keeps getting mixed up and calling it the tap and spile, {confusing it with a place we know on the corner near markets/wicker which he's never been in} which means we don't bother going to meet him because of the extra distance, away from town. And my mates who I drink with are pussies and won't go near the wicker???

Not been in for a while (having kids seriously recks your social life:( ), but when I lived/worked in Sheffield I was in there a lot.

I love it, 'tis my favourite pub, it's the only place I actually feel 'at home' in and I wouldn't change a single thing about it!!:thumbsup:

When I worked there in the late nineties we cleaned the pipes regularly and there was nothing at all wrong with the draft...but I've heard a rumour that the pipes aren't cleaned all that regularly anymore...a rumour I don't believe if John's still in charge and calling everyone "Matey" as he ran a tight ship.

quality pub. Although first pint I ever had there had a big black fly sat at the bottom which I didn't notice til near the end.

Any more infor on this barman that said don't drink draft in there? Why? I'm interested...

Jon definitely still is in charge at the Dove, I've never had a draft drink from there that's been anywhere approaching iffy, I agree with Carmine - sound's a bit like sour grapes from somebody!!:suspect:

I don't frequent the place as much as I used to but a few years ago, I was in every weekend. Getting a bit run down now could do with a bit of cash splashing on it especially the bogs. I have never had a dodgy pint (when what I want is on)

i was dj in there 91/92,sunday nights were well busy.

The ladies toilets aren't too bad (I've been worse..Casbah) but I'm continually freaked out by the missing roof access panel, it's right above one of the cubicles and it gives me the shivers. Surely it woulnd't take much to get a piece of MDF or something cut to fit it.

Well I've had the occasional guiness which has been a little too earthy. But this is usually because the bar doesn't sell much of it. However it's usually alright, and there's always Newcastle Brown.
I disagree with person who says the place is smelly. The gents are usually ok for a bar when I go in, although there is rather a lot of writing on the wall, above the p*** corner.

I don't go to the Dove very often, but when I have been I have found both the staff and drinkers sound, place has character and the ale is fine.

Could do with spending money on maintenance, such as the bogs and the seats though....

But a full refurb no, it would ruin the style...

I'm often in their on a wednesday taking part in the film quiz and do win quite often. Tis, a fine place.

I went in a while back after being in the Bankers draft.

Talk about one extreme to another.

(character wise)

One Friday night I was in the Bankers Draft and the service in there being what it was the bar was about 5 deep, so I nipped into the Dove and Rainbow for 5 bottles of Newcastle Brown, and took them back into the Bankers. Well, it wasn't what my mates had ordered but they were well chuffed at being served so quick.

Actually, I don't mind the Dove, but it's not the sort of place my Sheffield crowd go :(

Used to be a regular in there when it was the tut,
The it got painted and the music change more, punk and really heavy stuff (all the classic stuff just stopped being played), then the kids started coming in and a lot of the cool characters stopped.

After a while I didn't recognise the place I once loved so much.

I used to go in pretty much every week but dont really get much chance anymore

A good mate of mine Leanne works there most days now.
