I think posts are limited to 1500 words, so I won't even get started on my experiences there  WallBuilder 02-03-2005, 16:34 Woodseats Motors near the top of Woodseats Road has a good reputation, I've known one or two people get cars from them with no problems and have heard other's saying that they always go to them when wanting a newer car. Zebra 02-03-2005, 17:11 I've used Woodseats for my current car and I'm happy. My partner used the one beside the Hollins End Pub at Intake - another good one and they were open on that very snowy day we had, which is more than I can say more most car dealers. Just take a checklist of things to look for in a used car and you should be ok. :) Longcol 02-03-2005, 19:49 Direct Cars out Mosborough way if you want something nearly new at £ ' 000' s off the list price. 1Man&hisBMW 02-03-2005, 20:05 depends on what car you want I would suppose... Abdul 02-03-2005, 21:10 Originally posted by Longcol Direct Cars out Mosborough way if you want something nearly new at £ ' 000' s off the list price. Agreed, Direct Cars' prices are very competitive but they're not for penniless peasants. There's very little choice available in the £6000 and under price bracket. However, for between £7,000 and £8,000 you can pick up a decent car of about 1 year old, still with the remainder of the manufacturers warranty to run. Make sure you have secured the funds before you visit...their finance is provided by Black Horse...you could probably get a better finance deal from your bank. Skatiechik 03-03-2005, 08:51 I would avoid them all together, they mostly only get cars from auctions.....better off buying a private. Seadiver 03-03-2005, 20:45 Most nearly new cars on any dealers forecourt come via Motor Auctions. These are by far the best cars to go for, they will have service history and have been maintained regardless of cost having been owned by companies. Buying from a Private seller you really take your life in your hands. Very little come back if something goes wrong ( buyer beware and all that ) In my experience private sellers are a lot more likely to lift your leg then Motor Traders, as long as you use some common sense you won't go far wrong. alchresearch 03-03-2005, 20:49 Originally posted by Seadiver Buying from a Private seller you really take your life in your hands. I'd suggest buying private and use some of the money you save by paying for an RAC or AA inspection. Not all private sellers are crooks, many are just trying to get a better deal than the rip off trade prices offered by dealers. deecee 03-03-2005, 20:56 I would avoid Eric Stead on Ecclesfield, they don't seem to have any understanding in the term "After sales service ". I have had bad dealings with them, I don't think they are very good ambasadors for "Rover". :( Sony 04-03-2005, 05:56 I'd highly recommend kevin ward from bradway.Advertises his cars on ebay, and he honestly is the only honest car salesman out there. Trust me: log on to ebay and in advanced search click on by seller then type in kevinwardbmw Or alternatively phone him on: 07779657771 Just tell him Stefan recommended him cheers! They are normally owned by hire companies...and what do most people do when they get the hire car for the day, rag the pants of it...:gag: matsalleh 04-03-2005, 10:05 I used to collect cars for a leasing company, yes they do send them to car auctions. They should be not more than 3 years old and will all have fsh, as it is a condition of the lease that servicing is done.I have collected a top of the range Merc with under 5000 miles after 3 yrs and a 14 month cavalier with 114,00 miles (how do they do that?). stoofa 04-03-2005, 16:43 Got mine from Meadowbank Cars (migh tby Motors?) on Meadowbnak Road just Rotherham side of Meadwhall - very good and no problems with it. Give good price on your old one if you have one. Girlfriend got hers recently from Direct Cars. Like others say, if you have £5000 plus to spend you'll get a good car there - don't ask for any discount though! UnkleBob 04-03-2005, 20:58 I have bought my last two cars from Autoworld, on Abbeydale road and the one in Chesterfield, they sell more used ones there, have had little trouble but they fixed my (minor) gearbox leak and a dodgy temperature gauge, under warranty but easy to deal with and polite and efficient. Better to find a local indy place when the warranty's finished though... Seadiver 05-03-2005, 01:40 Originally posted by Skatiechik They are normally owned by hire companies...and what do most people do when they get the hire car for the day, rag the pants of it...:gag: I think you will find they are mostly owned by leasing companies, its easy to check the information just ask to see the Log book. I have always found that if you buy the right car in the first place and look after it you will be offered a good part x deal. However if you buy for example a Rover or Ford Mondeo then you are going to get offered very little as a little research will tell you these cars aren't worth a bean come trade in time. d71146 15-06-2007, 21:36 I would avoid Eric Stead on Ecclesfield, they don't seem to have any understanding in the term "After sales service ". Mine was spot on low mileage no probs 1 private keeper before ne! ChrisTodd 16-06-2007, 10:11 Try Ecclesall Motor Co (EMC) at Malin Bridge or Whitelea Garage in Wales. Both are good, depends which side of town you are. NatalieSheff 16-06-2007, 10:38 hes ok at shalesmoor -the one on the corner nr tram stop or century motors nr netto at middlewood maxfacta 16-06-2007, 12:06 West Bar Motor Company. Derrell, the main guy there is fantastic and the back up service is brilliant! surfinjim 16-06-2007, 14:36 Just been and used Pentagon Vauxhall, bottom of Eccleshall Road. Good service from start to finish, and no real pressure either to buy or take their finance. Let me know if you go there, they are doing a referal scheme, which I'd split.:hihi: Jim Rob_1 16-06-2007, 15:02 Most nearly new cars on any dealers forecourt come via Motor Auctions. You're having a laugh, the people I know with company cars whip them to within an inch of their lives, drive them into the ground and do NO normal maintenance checks whatsoever as they dont care - it isn't their car. If it breaks they get another! I would much rather buy private, do your homework and you can get a car with less mileage and less owners for less money. You can buy warranties yourself without buying from a dealer, I believe the car needs to have a FSH though. The vast majority (not all) of car dealers will tell you anything to sell you a car. hockeybear 16-06-2007, 16:52 I'd highly recommend kevin ward from bradway.Advertises his cars on ebay, and he honestly is the only honest car salesman out there. I checked out the guys feedback-All good. We have bought the car-great car, good price and also took ours as part exchange. I had an HPI check that showed outstanding finance. I was very concerned and discussed it with the dealer, who reassured me. Experience told me to check it out and it turned out that the very reputableData Check Company had not been informed it was now HPI clear! Great Company, Great bloke, (very patient and understanding).AAA plus. If your looking to buy a car try here first. PS Give CarCraft a Wiiiiiiiiide Berth, the car the BMW they sold me was totally dodgy, and turned out to be unroad safe, due to the breaks. rad 19-08-2008, 17:56 I'm looking at used cars at the mo. Autotrader revealed Woodseats Rd Motors had some nice looking cars in my budget and spec, and because of user recommendations on here, I thought they'd be good. Went down today and the cars look lovely and are the best bargains I've found so far.... BUT... the guy there didn't seem to want to talk to me, he had a bit of an attitude on him, seemed reluctant to answer questions, wouldn't LET ME take a test drive unless I pretty much guaranteed I was buying one of them (I said it was between one of those and another car I'd be looking at later that day, and I'd be buying in the next couple of days. He said I had to see the other car first and make my mind up before I could test drive his!) - I mean, I appreciate you don't want timewasters but I was geniunely interested in these cars and because they and the other one I wanted to try were all different models, I wanted to try each model to make sure which was my preference: it's not like it's a cheap investment! So, ordinarily I wouldn't buy from there because of his lousy attitude, but the cars seemed very good, so is it possible I just caught the guy on an off day? I've also seen a car at Hillbrook motors in Attercliffe that looks promising but I know nothing about them - anyone know what they are like? Chop 19-08-2008, 18:01 I've used Woodseats for my current car and I'm happy. I think posts are limited to 1500 words, so I won't even get started on my experiences there  i'll second you on that and third and so on 1500 pages wouldn't be enough shower of s**t pentagon as it is now called. Robow 19-08-2008, 22:36 Yes I have bought a car from Hillbrook Motors at Attercliffe, I think it is a small family business, and they were helpful and they didn't follow me around and did let me test drive a couple of cars without the pressure of buying it. In the end I did buy a VW GOLF at a good price, which had good service history as this was very important for me, however I did experience a problem with the car a few days after where the engine management light came on and the car seemed to lose power, took it back to them and without question they booked it into the garage next door which was very convenient, who immediately put it on a computer where it came with a fault on some sort of sensor, they replaced it free of charge, great service without the hassle, wouldn't hesitate in recommending them to anyone. They do have a good selection of cars, at sensible prices, which I found on the website which is hillbrookmotors.co.uk, but that was my good experience I had, don't know if anyone has had anything different? lobster 19-08-2008, 23:09 have to go with direct cars at mosborough , bought 2 from there no problems Grubshifter 19-08-2008, 23:10 Wherever you buy don't be tempted to buy a mechanical breakdown/extende warranty, from my experience when running a garage it is an opt out for the car dealer to carry out any repairs that may be needed and if you do need any repairs doing its a nightmare. I virtually had to get permission from the insurers to remove every nut, bolt and washer and spent more time making telephone calls on the customers behalf (which I had to charge for) than I did doing actual repairs. The insurers were always looking for any excuse possible to opt out themselves and sometimes they would tell me to stop the work. When a job was completed the customer had to pay me and then claim back from the insurers. I never knew a customer who got his payment met so I would not undertake this type of work again even though it could be extremely profitable for myself. Also beware of very low mileage cars, they have mostly been used for short runs and the engines have never ever got to normal operating temperatures or run in properly and will have worn very rapidly. You can actually get a very high mileage fleet car that will be in far better condition than the little old ladies "pristine" car which has only been used on local runs, garaged, polished and cherished (and unintentionally severely abused). The fleet cars will normally have been maintained to the highest possible standards by the leasing company and will not only be thousands of pounds cheaper but will last a lot longer too with a lot less repair. Milky Joe 20-08-2008, 12:25 We bought a car from Fulwood Motor Company. Very good service and no problems as yet (fingers crossed) hettiechloe 20-08-2008, 14:45 Before anyone even contemplates buying from Carcraft, can I draw your attention to the following site? http://www.mycarcraftexperience.co.uk This is not my site but I do wish I’d seen it before I used this company. Absolute brigands. kate55 20-08-2008, 19:37 I reccomend MB motors on Barnsley Road. Is this the Pentagon Garage on Savile Street (just off Wicker)?? Im 'attempting to buy a car from there but they are essing me around - Grrr! Trotterette 25-08-2008, 13:15 Ok, well I'm now (unfortunately) in the position to be able to reinforce what a few others have said on here - stay away from Pentagon on Savile St! Tried to buy a car from there and it was a nightmare - so much so that I've now gone elsewhere and am demanding my deposit back. Basically got lied to, the customer service was rubbish, they never called back when they said they would, etc.... Over 3 weeks after putting a deposit down on a car that I presumed I would be able to drive away that day, I still hadnt got it and had no idea when I would get it so decided not to bother. Sick of being messed around and fobbed off! Went to Evans Halshaw instead - perefect, genuine service! Rant over!! :D linzi_13 27-08-2008, 15:55 Has anyone bought a car from capital cars on queens road?? seen a nice little car there that i'm wanting to purchase so any feedback would be good thanks. Nibble25 21-09-2008, 09:50 I would be careful to deal with Direct Cars.Their prices are not competitive as they portray and would do my homework before you buy from them. I had bought 2 high end cars of them in the past and recently paid a deposit of £500.00 and within hours found same colour ,same plate car with 10,000 miles lesser and £1200 cheaper. However they would not refund my deposit and felt taken hostage by them. They just took hard earned £500.00 which is very unfair. Be very careful when you sign anything and don't trust them. haddockman 18-07-2009, 16:16 As this thread is a bit out of date now, I was wondering if people had any more recent views? I'm looking for a car and would appreciate any recommendations and warnings of places to steer clear of! There's a couple at Hillbrook I like the look of. People have posted about direct cars they do have nearly new cars but check the log book these can be previously hire / lease vehicles which may have been thrashed! nerd 20-07-2009, 20:18 lidgett used car sales (i think thats the name) on the road from chapeltown out towards hoyland common seemed to be ok, my friend got his car from them and its been fine, good price too. Mandem 20-07-2009, 21:08 I reccomend MB motors on Barnsley Road. Got my current car from them a couple of month ago. Hope your car is still okay, my son has just bought a car from them today.
