We had a discussion at work last night. It went like this.

If you have a cream cake or chocolate cake do you lick your fingers after or just wipe them.

Are you being polite when you wipe but you really want to lick your fingers.

Or do you lick your fingers because you don`t want to miss any of the cream or chocolate.

Or do you use a fork.

Licking your fingers in polite company...really, the state of youth today!

Use a fork...or eat your goodies in private and lick away.

I am blessed with a larger than average gob, so most of them just go down the hatch. No mess. It's also a good way to win a 'eat a doughnut without licking your lips' bet :)

Ok then, eating it all in one or with a fork, but do you enjoy it as much.

Most of the women loved eating the cream cakes and then licking their fingers it added to the enjoyment. Perhaps it has something to do with should we eat cream cakes.

Having a fork is good when watching tv and you dont have to watch what you are eating.

If I got cream on my fingers I'd lick it off first and then wash my hands. I've eaten with a fork but only do this if it's particularly awkward to hold or eat without cream oozing everywhere. It isn't the same though - like chips tasting better in paper than on a plate.

Chips and fish do taste better when eating them out of the newspaper, but do we understand why this is?

I think it must by psychological; not only are you eating naughty fattening food, you're not eating on a plate like you were told to as a kid!

and yep i lick my fingers no matter whos company im in, everyone eats and everyone dribbles or gets in a tacking sometimes with their food why pretend ya dont just cos someone else is there LOL

Licking cream or chocolate off your fingers is OK, providing you can remember where you've had your fingers recently and what else might be on them :D

Two theories:

1) Paper absorbs some of the excess grease and makes the food more palatable

2) The food is better insulated in paper than on a plate and stays warm longer. Again, this is more palatable if there is a lot of fat.

no-one has mentioned so far, how, if you "pinch" a handful of chips off someone, they always taste much better than the chips that you have bought yourself.

I can't understand why this is.

Even if I lick my fingers Id still have to wipe em' :gag: So I tend to just wipe my fingers after, unless Im using a 'Spork' (spoon and fork at the same time :hihi: )
