View Full Version : Do you have a favourite cup or mug?
Jabberwocky 19-02-2008, 19:51 WELL?!? DO YA?!?
I have a white coffee mug with the words "Miserable git" on it, Ive had it for a few years now and Im very fond of it, it says so much about me.
One of the things it says about me, apart from the fact that Im miserable and a git, is the fact that Im also a dirty bugger. I like to treat my mug in the same way I treat my wok, I only rinse it with warm water and NEVER use detergents on it!
There are things stuck to the inside of that mug that have been there for months, things that have evolved into creatures with eyes and limbs, and they... they sometimes talk to me! The OH, god rot the nipples off her, tells me the voices and the creatures are a by-product of food poisoning- caused by the bacteria inside the mug BUT THAT MUG HAS NO BACTERIA! THE COFFEE CRITTERS EAT ALL THE GERMS!
Its also got a chip in the edge of it.
A chip is a definate no no in this house, my oh sees a chipped cup or mug and she bins it! SHE BINS IT!
So, shes either constantly trying to wash or bin my mug and Im constantly guarding it from her and warning the coffee critters that they must be ever vigilant in case she manages to get hold of it while Im out, Im waiting for them to evolve enough to develop missiles and nukes so they can defend themselves, so .... just another 170 million or so years to go and I wont have to worry so much.
So, your favourite cup or mug....
TELL ME ABOUT IT!! OR ILL LICK YA FEET!
My favourite mug holds a little under a pint of tea and has a complete periodic table on it. It was bought for me by a friend to remind me that whether I'm well enough to work or not, I'm a scientist.
Jabberwocky 19-02-2008, 19:58 I have a pint mug but it has a swear word on it, my daddy in law got it for me because he thinks I AM the swear word.
I cant use it though, Im bad enough on a quarter pint of coffee, a whole pint of coffee would have me buzzing like a bee.
cressida 19-02-2008, 20:01 being born Valentine's Eve I have a hearts one, also one with champagne and chocs. in pink and white, and one with a red and black basque on it
I have one from Newfoundland, which I use of course because my grandchildren bought it for me
Waltheof 19-02-2008, 20:28 I have a couple of favourite ones--my current one was a present from in-laws and holds almost a pint too--which I use for tea. It has on both sides (with the handle in the middle) a not bad relief imprint of the Great Seal of England from the time of Edward III. They knew my interest in history. The other, which I used to use, is smaller, and was made by a local potter some years ago. It has tree-like motifs on it, induced by etching with acid. Very pretty.
whitehorses 20-02-2008, 18:27 And you swore to me that mug was black ,Jabbers.:suspect:
Kaizabella 20-02-2008, 18:37 My favourite mug is one which was bought for me as a present by a member of family, its a rather large Nightmare Before Christmas mug.
My other mug is one with a green cat on it I bought from Macro in a fit of temper after not being able to find a cup in my house for the 5th day in a row, so I decided to buy my own cup, then I'd always be able to find it...
This was 4 months ago.... I think I've used it once
pinklady 20-02-2008, 18:43 I like china mugs, my fav at the moment is a white china one with red and black flowers on, I dont like mugs with thick rims .... dont know why, just my little OCD thing. and as soon as they get a chip or crack .... thay are history and the big mug hunt begins again
Jabberwocky 20-02-2008, 18:51 And you swore to me that mug was black ,Jabbers.:suspect:
I just wanted to gross you out! :D

for a snip?
Jabberwocky 20-02-2008, 19:00 for a snip?
"Snip" is a very worrying word for me.
I just went all.... ugh, shuddery
One mug that I've used frequently at work for some years is black and has 'Coffee from Hell' written on it, which is sort of descriptive.
I've decided to 'retire' it now and keep it at home - don't want to lose it or break it!
The contract I've just started has equipped me with a cute mug with two hens from 'Chicken Run' on it that says 'We mustn't panic!'...I'm going to see if I can 'borrow' it in a month or so's time. :D
cressida 20-02-2008, 19:05 "Snip" is a very worrying word for me.

sorry darling you know I wouldn't say anything to make you jump:cool:
Agent Orange 20-02-2008, 19:07 I have a couple which I use often, one at work and one at home... the one at work is a huge NYPD mug and the one at home is an RAF mug with my squadron's motif and my nickname on it.
Mine says I'm a mug from Sheffield on it. It was bought from a shop down Chapel Walk about 20 years ago.
Mentalmomma 20-02-2008, 19:11 Red Mug, love and hearts on! slightly smaller than our set of mugs, but bigger than a farty cup (can't be doing with them at all!!! It's perfect and i Love it!
Jabberwocky 20-02-2008, 19:11 When I worked at NCP, I.... "Liberated" three of their ncp mugs. Theyre quite ugly and the OH keeps trying to arrange little "Mishaps" for them, I get visits from friends who still work there and the sick look on their faces when I give them a drink in one of those mugs which are no longer made now is almost better than the sick look they get from drinking my coffee.
The OH managed to "Accidentally" drop one a couple of years ago, purely by "Accident" of course.
I "Accidentally" almost bit off her big toe for that so she now keeps well away from them :D
whitehorses 20-02-2008, 19:21 I have this white china mug with flowers on it, now bizarrely, I don't use it all day, just for my first cup of tea in the morning. It just has to be THAT one with my breakfast, and my whole day feels 'Wrong' if I start without it!!All the rest of the day I have a tall beakerish mug with strange cats on it! :hihi:
Jabberwocky 20-02-2008, 19:24 Each time we go into town, each week, I always buy a mug from one of the shops. Its driving the OH mental because we have cupboards and drawers packed FULL of them all with different pics on or in different colours, shes taken to keeping a very close eye on me in shops now but I always manage to sneak one into the shopping basket or trolley.
elethiomel 20-02-2008, 19:50 I don't have a favourite mug but I do have a mug I only use for coffee and another I only use for tea and others I use for both.
Don't ask me why
my favourite mug is a winnie the pooh mug, pictures inside and out, on the outside it says 'bothers blow away in the breezes' and then on the inside at the top it says no bothers, almost full, then below that it says swish, swoosh half full, and then near the bottom it says hum-dee-dum nearly done.
Many years ago I had a blue mug with Cyanide written on it - that was my favourite coffee mug. Now, I dont really mind what mug my coffee comes in, but tea has to be in a china one or it does not taste right.
My fav mug is what the lads at work got me as a birthday gift 2-3 years ago it says worlds biggist w####r not sure if they ment it as the person i am or the fact that i nip to the toilet a few times aday and get up to no good
fatalstarlite 21-02-2008, 17:57 my fave mug and one that no-one dares to touch or drink out of is my Richard Hammond mug....its got his face all over it...i really enjoy my cuppa:hihi::hihi:
pattricia 21-02-2008, 17:59 Yes, a fine bone china mug from the U.S.A.

Waltheof 21-02-2008, 18:05 No, actually I prefer a cup and saucer, but this mug is a favourite.:)
I've given up using a cup and saucer, except on special occasions. They don't hold enough anyway

O.K. Will do !!
I used to have a square mug that I liked to give to visitors and watch them as they tried to figure out how to drink from it without getting covered in coffee.
My favourites are my breakfast mug which is a glass pint bowl with a handle on it, and my ducky mug which holds half a pint and is earthenware with a picture of a duck on it.
Bladesman 22-02-2008, 11:43 I have a big fat The Simpsons mug thats the size of a pint glass.
