It looked more like a coffee place when I went past the other day. Chris BIO 19-02-2008, 04:27 PM Shame we lost a good record shop to gain another crap bar. Bloody hell, bit quick to judge there, they've not even finished the joinery and youv'e decided it's crap! :o I suppose you're right in one sense - if they're only selling coffee it would indeed be a pretty crap bar ;) BasilRathbon 19-02-2008, 04:27 PM I heard it's going to be a Costa Coffee, not a bar. It looked more like a coffee place when I went past the other day. Just what the city centre needs! Chris BIO 19-02-2008, 04:31 PM Just what the city centre needs! Isn't it. I don't even like coffee. Celestial 19-02-2008, 05:56 PM I walked past it today, looks like it's gonna be a restaurant or something and as for Costa Coffee, ain't they a Starbucks on the Devonshire Quarter already. I drink tea anyway. jojomarmite 20-02-2008, 02:08 PM its gonna be a costa saw costa written on boxes tripleu 20-02-2008, 11:21 PM Maybe it's going to be something different or exciting! Maybe it's going to be the new Loch Fyne Restaurant which is due to open somewhere in Sheffield in 'Spring 2008'? If Fopp is not changing to Fyne, does anyone know where Loch Fyne will be? MJM1962 20-02-2008, 11:48 PM The new Loch Fyne restaurant is going to be in the old "Hanrahans" building. mholey 21-02-2008, 03:06 AM Shame we lost a good record shop to gain another crap bar. What was so great about fopp?? And also, how do you know the new bar will be "crap"? You sound like a bandwagon jumping fool, whom like nothing more than to moan about things, just to sound traditionalist and righteous. Give it a chance, I've no idea if it's gonna be a bar or not, but if it is then you are slagging it off before it's even had a chance to wet the lips of a single punter. Tool. Celestial 21-02-2008, 09:19 AM Fopp was ok, but no better than Virgin or Zavvi as it's called now, or HMV. I wouldn't say it was any much cheaper or owt. The selection there was also quite limited. Depends what you were after - true it wasnt a great place for new releases or high st stuff - but I thought they had a really good buying team for classic old back catalogue stuff - for which it was far better & cheaper than HMV/Zavvi. NEKRO138 21-02-2008, 10:35 AM What was so great about fopp?? It sold cds cheap, for about £3 or £5 you could get a GOOD album, rather than the usual stuff. Picked up almost all of the Sonic Youth back catalogue from there for either £3 or £5 a pop, as well as many other fantastic albums. I got two Mercury Rev albums for a fiver as well. The book section was also very good and very well priced. And it also had a vinyl section originally. Though they did keep a box downstairs with local 7s in which was good. The dvds were a bit on the expensive side. Best going to Music Zone for them. Also closed down, sadly. I miss it loads. Celestial 21-02-2008, 11:09 AM Now music zone was good, and cheap too. JohnM 21-02-2008, 11:10 AM The dvds were a bit on the expensive side. Best going to Music Zone for them. Also closed down, sadly.. Thats why FOPP shut - they were ticking along quite happily with 30/40 shops but then decided to buy out Music Zone who had over 100 shops - which led to serious cash flow problems and so the company going under... :( ReginaldD 21-02-2008, 11:34 AM http://www.fopp.com/ No sheffield shop though NEKRO138 21-02-2008, 11:39 AM http://www.fopp.com/ No sheffield shop though Yeah, I still call in the one in Manchester when I go. It's got a cafe in it. Best of both worlds! nick2 21-02-2008, 01:27 PM And also, how do you know the new bar will be "crap"?
