Not quite sure how that would work, mgaman? Surely the M1 is the best bypass of Chapeltown that there is, and if you're travelling only a couple of miles further north, Penistone Road (or is it Halifax Road) is fine? Unless they're thinking of doing away with M1 access from the mini roundabout and relocating it nearer to Ecclesfield?

There IS a road that goes from just beyond Morrisons in Ecclesfield to the M1 jn35 missing chapeltown entirely :D its a bit uneven and not the best road in the world but it does bypass Chapeltown!!!

I think its Neither Lane which then joins on to Cowley Hill, which then ends up at junction 35. I agree not the greatest of road surfaces.

To be honest i couldnt see the point of a Chapletown by-pass. Like other people have said you have the M1 plus the A61 which joins on to the A616 that road by passes Ecclesfield, Chapletown & High Green.

And if it was true any ideas on where this new road would start and finish?

the problem with Nether Lane is twofold- the junction at the Chapeltown end, which when you are at the line is nearly blind due to the hedge surrounding the house on the opposite corner, and the railway bridge, which is too narrow, when the are trucks coming either way one will have to stop, and the bridge is too low for most hgvs which then have to go into Chap' to go round, this route then involves negotiating the roundabout and passing Ecclesfield School, If the bridge was re-aligned( to remove the blind corner) and widened the road would be excellent. I work on Nether Lane and have heard say of the junction being changed to a roundabout due to the future redvelopment of the old coking works land
