All my fave boozers in town don't have tellys in - which is great 99.999% of the time.

Bit annoying when you want to watch the England rugby match at 8pm this Saturday though without going home, or going to some god awful drinking shed (like Walkabout or Champs) or a student-tastic bar.

Any ideas for some quiet(ish) boozer style pubs in or near the city centre where the rugby could be watched?

I'd try the Springfield.

My usual recommendation for TV sport in the city centre is the Queen's Head at the bus station. Saturday evenings normally seem to be (relatively) quiet, and they also serve very good Thwaites real ales.
I don't follow rugby so don't know who's playing, but if England are involved it'll probably be on.

If its on BBC as I think it is, there is a TV in our conservatory on freeview it is only a normal 28" TV we dont put it on very often, apart from sky news on a saturday. But you are welcome to ask one of the staff to put it on for you! You will probably have the conservatory to yourself!

You could go to "the Place" in broomhill they always show the rugby, although England are more than likely going to get battered!!
